Ok, so my few cents to all of the above, maybe could help someone, especially to those, who are frightened about purchasing TC Konnekt24D because of doubtful drivers quality.

First i used cheap m-audio cards. Forget these, it's like soundblaster.

Echo Audiofire 4 firewire. Yes, sounds good and no problems i expirienced while using with PC and laptop pc also.

One day the inner gear explorer in me told i should try TC Konnekt24D as the next step in my production. It would be logical to go for RME fireface then, but the lack of money and a great interest to try everything available made me sell my old cards and get this Konnekt24D, as i also wanted to try these plugins, which go with the card.

Well, sounds noticably better than Echo Audiofire 4 (doesn't mean audiofire is of poor quality, no, very nice card), and i like the included EQ, multiband compressor and the reverb. Though i haven't tried much of good quality plugins, these sound much better than popular vsti.
I have had the problems with latency (working on PC for now), and then, after cheking the TC forum, found the recomended updates for Windows XP, but this still didn't help.
At last i updated the drivers for my motherboard, cleaned the system for some viruses or smth like that, and after that it began working fine.

So. Being a PC-user, if you want to use Konnekt24D, you should prepare yourself for the steps:
1. Clean your system.
2. Update Windows.
2. Update all your drivers (don't leave the devices without needed drivers), find the last drivers for your motherboard.

hehe, you should do these anytime and with any equipment,
but beware with TC and their new drivers, cause they are not always steady enough, for example they released a new version for the powercore series, v3.2, im running the v3.1 and when i received a mail to dl the new drivers i was cautious and didnt install them only to find out after a month (on TC forum) that lots of users have problems with the new 3.2 drivers and and had to do all the super shitty job like unplug cards, uninstall drivers, replug cards, install other drivers again, plugins etc etc when the system was ok before the upgrade, i hope they have overcome their problems with the konnekt cause they had a lot of complains from users, thats why im advising to read what others say about new drivers etc before you install them (as long you dont have problems)

i have an opportunity to pick up a slightly used Focusrite Saffire for only $120. I currently use M-Audio Delta 66 with the omni box. Would the saffire be a decent upgrade? I'm pretty sure i can sell the delta for at least that much. Or I might just keep it around for the other PC. I've had it for about 7 or 8 years and I'm pretty happy with it (but i don't really have any experience with anything else for comparison).

I don't have any external synths, but I do record guitars, so if saffire has better quality AD converters, that's definitely a plus for me. I'm not yet at the point where I feel the need to invest a lot of money into really quality interface/converters, so my question is strictly about those 2 interfaces. I'm just not really sure how good/bad the delta really is.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

I feel like a right tool. I forgot about this thread, and it's just resurfaced right above my out of place question which really didn't need a new topic.

Anyway, I'm thinking of buying an RME Fireface 400, does anyone have one and could tell me whether you can hit record on Soundforge/Audition and record whatever is playing in Windows, such as a DVD or Movie file?

This is essential to me, and my last card (motu 828) couldn't handle it!

Do it. Now!!

Seriously..that's a crazy deal, and it'll be a nice upgrade. Grab it while you can.

The saffire is (imo) the best interface with a decent amount of I/O below $500. Only exception is the Apogee Duet..beats the shit out of everything in its range as far as SQ, but it's pretty inconvenient for those who need to record or need more than 1 stereo out playing live.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

Thanks, Kane. That's what I figured, so I emailed the guy as soon as I saw it (craigslist). Unfortunately, I was a few hours too late. The dude was surprised so many people were actually interested in it. Haha. Incidentally, he upgraded to Duet and then to Steinberg MR816CSX, so now he's thinking of selling the Duet. If he puts as good of a price on it as he did for the Saffire, I'm going to snatch it up. I told him to keep me in the loop.

I heard lots of good things about the Duet and it has everything I need. My current delta/omni has tons of routing possibilities (as well as dedicated controls for gains, headphones, phantom power, etc), but I never actually had any use for that. So Duet would be perfect.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

Agh..I almost feel bad for not responding sooner.

Definitely go for the Duet if it's under $400 and you have the cash..used ones seem to be hard to find, and I haven't really seen them any cheaper on eBay. I just upgraded with one from a Saffire recently, and I'm really happy with it. We need more products like that..focusing the development on one thing for people with otherwise minimal requirements. Almost all (relatively) cheap gear tends to be just decent, but with tons of features.

A Konnekt 24D might also be a good choice if you're using a PC. I probably would've gotten one at some point, but it's the worst thing you could get for a mac from what I've heard.           You believe in the users?

Nah, by the time I saw the ad, it was already sold.

But, wait a sec, the Duet is Mac only???

Never-fucking-mind then. I guess I'll just stick with the delta for the immediate future, unless some super-sweet deal comes along.

Oh..sorry man I didn't even know. I had heard people were using them that I knew were using OS, so I just bought it without really looking at those specs.           You believe in the users?

So I just picked up a used Konnekt for $150. See what happens when you are "not looking"...

And, yeah, I read tons of grief from mac users. And from pc users from a couple of years back as well. Everyone was saying the same thing: quality converters and pre (in this price-range), horrible drivers. But it seems like they released new drivers a few months back that finally everyone is happy with. And now they are hinting that 64-bit drivers will be released in a month or so. Which is perfect timing for me, since I'm thinking of moving to 64-bit Vista.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance
