If what Tryptagon said about their quality is true, then I would consider that relatively cheap..

I am looking for a new soundcard!
Still using NI Audio Kontrol 1, but I am not really satisfied with it for production, maybe for live gig it could be a nice choice.
For the moment I am only using soft synthies, no hardware, but maybe in future some vst will be replaced through hardware synthies.
Before NI I tried M-Audio 24/96 but not really my fall, I want getting something better.
I need a soundcard with internal mixing/routing function(m-audio did have) and I will get a RME soundcard, but I don't know which is the best choice for me. |

If you're talking about Fireface 400 vs. 800, then imo the price between them is nothing compared to the 400. I would only buy a 400 if I was absolutely sure I wouldn't be using more than 2 hard synths with it over it's life.
But if you're looking at PCI/(e), then I have no idea.

I'm looking at a new soundcard. Issue is du to budget problems i mite have not many options.
I'm looking at a USB one.... From the options that i have i cld choose from a M-Audio fast track pro or Presonus Audio Box. Any1 here tried both? Wat do u think among those is more suitable for playing live as well using for the Studio?
Does the Presonus have problems like the M-audio when it comes to voltage/electricity as sometimes the M-audio crashes when certain fluctuations occurs.( mind you.. i have a M-audio audiophile USB at the moment).
If i manage to make a lil more money... then i think i cld go in for the Presonus Fire Box. Anybody know how much tht costs?
Ur suggestions/recommendations would really help!
Thanks and cheers!

I recommend an Edirol UA25(EX) if you're gonna go with USB. Not many features, but the SQ is much better than either of those imo.

$300 USD, and it is probably the best interface you can get for the price. A Focusrite Saffire LE would be nice too..exactly the same I/O and price as the Firebox. It's hard to compare their sound..they're almost identical to my ears.

Try the old in and out the box trick several times. You will soon hear which one wins on conversion. |

Maybe I'll open them up in a little when the warranties are done..it's very possible that they're using the same kind of circuit. For multichannel A/D/A almost everyone just chooses between 3 or 4 Cirrus chips. I forget what the UA25 uses..the only one I had broke about a year ago (physically, and it was totally my fault), but I killed all the components (and almost my usb port) trying to get it to work again.

Sorry Kane, I meant take a section of music ( 20 seconds) and send it out the analogue outs and back in again and record. I usually do it 10 times. Then I uses win ABX to test myself. See how many times you went out and couldn't ABX it.
I find this test useful as I go in and out the box to my outboard a lot. |
