thx for the reply.
a friend of me who studies sound engineering tells me that i should work in 16bits and only in the last step i shoud export it in 24 bits.
so that would be the other side of your tip, i'm confused....

| He probably is the confused one. That makes no sense. if you are already in 16 bit, then exporting in 24 bit just wastes space and doesn't do anything for you... |

maybe i can help somebody with this set of plugs, and the chain im using mostly. i receive very good results with these.
eq's
(sonnox eq)
(bx_digital)
softube pe1c
urs eq's
comp's
(elysia alphacomp)
(bx_vertigo vsc2)
urs 1970/75/80
softube cl1b
ssl stereo bus comp
waves r-comp
waves c4/c6
limiter/clipper
(sonnox limiter)
(t-racks classic clipper)
fabfilter pro-l
ozone limiter
other stuff
wavearts tubesaturator
sonnox inflator
sonnox transmod
the ones with () i use regularly
sonnox eq cutting at 30hz-48db/oct and 20kh-48db/oct
then bx_digital keeping things mono between 80-120hz
hpf stereo image at the mono frequency
then depends of material what sounds best on, i choose the comp with no more than 1-2 gr, 20-50ms attack, 200-800ms release (it really depends here what source material you have)
and then my limiter 1st the t-racks classic clipper with max 1db gr gaining 1-4db(hard or softclip depends on material) and then the sonnox limiter set to attack 25ms and release is again material dependent.
these are basics, i try to focus to use so less as possible, with the maximum output as possible. post some questions if somebody has. greez jr |

in terms of the compressor, i choose the one who sounds best, simple as that. sometimes i use two, in mind, never to squeez one alone out, let there be 2. the release time is defined by spectral energy and bpm, hard or softclip also. attack of limiter is set by how the transients i want to sound. shorter attack makes it clickier, with more loudness, but in cost of quality and distortion. |

the second version sounds much clearer in the lower mids, not so mushy.

if youre a fan of saturation, i strongly recommend you to test the wavearts tubesaturator and the urs saturator.
maybe this plugin has his own benefits in other areas than lower frequencies.
just be aware that most saturation plugins will sound mushy if pushed to hard, and i would use them rather on a group or track channel, not on the master channel. keep this job to real tape machines.

Any comments on using T-Racks?
Ive been going to an engineer who uses this on the final mixdown or when preparing tracks to "flow" in a live set.
T-racks seemed to provide a good fat sound (we also used in conjunction with a PAZ spectrum analyser)
Would it be an idea to:
A- Use something else and avoid T-racks
B- Use T-Racks before using something else
C- Use T-racks after using something else
When I say "something else" I mean the generally accepted methods discussed in this thread.
Also what is everyones opinion on mastering tracks for live sets any enquiries I have made with pro mastering folks have said they would be looking at charging extra for "engineering" or advised me to go to an engineer if I wanted to send songs to be mastered as separate tracks and to recieve them back in separate tracks so I could use them for live sets and have the most control and choice over how I use the original sounds.
Do people put tracks into their live sets after mastering themselves or is anyone bouncing them off prof. mastering and getting them back separate tracks?
I understand that the main mastering is usually done onto final mixdown (1 track).
Correct me if anything wrong in my knowledge but feedback on this subject wud be great.
