I'd say it's a sawtooth with a bandpass filter and pitch modulation, but the key is the distortion. If you get that going in Sylenth and add Clip distortion with Amount and Drive turned all the way up, you can get some searing leads going.
Make that 2 sawtooths and detune 'm somewhat or press the unison button to widen the sound.

How to make the lead at 3:46?
How to make the lead at 0:28 and 2:51
in general I would also be ok with things like what waveforms etc.(certain parts of production of the sound), as I dont really want to reproduce but learn/understand to work with different techniques

Fakso about your examples:
1st
This is chord so you can make these type of sounds with 2 or 3 saw waves (one with lower octave) to make it fatter and make it as you like, tweak the adsr, (especially the release), filter cutoff, reverb, delay maybe a distortion to give a nice taste
2nd
Its easy to make simple pluck sounds...start with 2 waves 1 saw and 1 square (or 2 saw or more) with detune 30%+, voices 8, low pass filter, tweak the cutoff and the reso (little bit this), adsr envelope (as Alien Bug wrote), reverb, tiny delay and distortion...experiment with few disto vsts to find the taste you want...
cheers

second example:
this is propably Square wave with short amp/filter envelope. attack=0, decay=short, sustain,release=0
also add some bitcrusher or maybe different distortion.
maybe little bit of hall reverb - its only quick tip

Yes nice, thank you guys, I got near and experimented alot...totally forgot the square sound, it seems to be very useful for those bellish sounds damn I've always wondered how to do that with pulse but it was not close enough.
Also, alot of this progressive stuff is made with sylenth? I finally managed to get those nice pumping basslines thus I can finally focus on soundsynthesis for leads pads etc.
As I only worked with Sylenth for the last months I have the feeling, that the sound of the filter occures in a lot of tracks I would say, very sharp somehow

Can anyone offer any input on how to get close to this 'shimmering' pad at the beginning of this Posford track? It seems like a lot of reverb but I'm not sure what might give that shimmering sound in terms of modulation or other effects. Thanks.

Don't know if this has already been asked but...
How to do that Hi-Tech lead sounds producers like Montti, Fanalyze, Ultrapower use?
Thanks

the one starting at 3.03
at 1.24 .. I guess its saw wave and bandpass and lfo?
I want to know in general these shorter acid 'fx' sounds...are they mainly on lower octaves but highpassed with eq?

yep that sqelchy rise
I guess I'm right with bp and lfo, but to let those sounds sound meaty I guess they are on lower octaves with highcut to keep it clean, right?

Hmm i hear no squelch rise?, you mean the synth just before it hits?.
Its a saw wave with many voices, Some detune, Low octave, high resonance, some distortion, cut off modulation, and loads of stereo widening on.

I mean the one from 1.24 - 1.26
no low freqs. just the acid sound
well guess I have to try and try to get such nice soudning bandpass acid, already managed to get some nice things with different notes playing + the modulation of the parameters you mentioned
Some tips on 'loads of stereo widening' if I did not do it already(I put ms delay on the channel with slightly shifted ms settings)
