eq, cut at around 330hz and boost around 60hz. it also depends on the kick it self. |

i tried around a little bit, but didnt get a very good result. but the waveform looked nearly same.
this kick sounds very crispie, i cut it out of a professional track and wonder about this waveform...
i dont get the secret of it, it fits with all my basslines... instead of my other kicks i did...

i think it s a cut around 400 hz to remove the mud and let the bass sit better or its maybe compression or both |

Its from track after mastering. You hear work of brickwall limiter, propably eq, compression and exciters. Before mastering this kick originally sounds very different.
To this picture: its kick cutted propably on 250-500Hz and highest freqs are cut. How much of dB?? Who known?
Its impossible to say anything about just picture of audio signal.

Guys what type of compression do you usually use on Kicks? i know is a complex matter but im kind of stuck on this issue.
Ive been trying with sidechain of course and a multiband comp, but doesnt seems enough, i dont know a limiter maybe?

I usually use about 30-50ms attack on kicks, about 70 ms release (and ofcourse relative settings on treshold and ratio, usually to accomplish about 3db attenuation, but it all depends on the kick itself...)
I am in no way saying that this is the right way to do it, im still learning the use of compressors, but this seems to give me the punch i am looking for in many cases.
Personally i am mostly unsure about the release settings. Altough I know its purpose, I rarely actually hear clearly what its doing, and most of the time ive never seen the use for long release times? some input on this would be great
And btw different compressors will have very different impact on the sound... some much more punchy than others (just a/b RComp with URS Consolestrip pro for ex.)
lotsa love

ok^^ here is the pic:
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc44/orgytime/kick.jpg
and here the audiofile:
http://files.filefront.com/kickmp3/;12382083;/fileinfo.html
i got questions, and i hope its not too much...
as i wrote, i cut out this kick of a profesional track, thats why you see, and hear an additional noice.
and here is question 1: why do i hear this noice only with earphone (15€) perfectly, and not with my Yamaha HS50 M Monitorspeakers? (you can try out too)
i noticed this often... and i cant believe that 2000€ monitors solve this problem.
Question 2:
ok this kick is EQ´ed, Mastered and Compressed... but how can i know how my kick has to sound like before mastering? i just know that this kick fits perfect to my tracks, and i cant do a similar kick by myself
i do not know how to compress/EQ it, because i dont hear any difference, where i can say... aaahh thats it! ... soo, i try to sound like a kick i know, but got no chance to rebuild it...
how did you learn the process of making a "perfect" kick?
greetings, orgy

your kick won t change much at mastering except if it s really bad ( it can change to the worst too cause of the limiting or what ever the m.e. use to make the track loud as hell)

I learn from topic "Mother of all kick drum threads". There is everything what You need to known and many many many more
Mastering does'nt change sound that dramatically. But sufficiently for change the (visual) image of original sound.
Just make kick with 20dB cutted at 500Hz.
Look on that kick in sound editor.
Then use 8 or 10dB brickwall limiter. Go to sound editor and look at limited kick now. Do You see difference?

no! i tested 2 earphones, and a friend of mine tested it too... you will understand what i mean, when you plug in the earphone... and the bad thing is, its showing the truth imo, beacause you can see it also on the spectrum...
do you hear this noise also with your expensive monitors? if so... i got to buy better ones.
ps thanks for advices and help !
