i like bazzism because its easy to tune end of the kick
while the bassline is playing

and its how it fits in harmony in both key and frequencies spectrum with the bassline which is most important to achieving fat sound.

Yup right, i use bazz to and its great to me

Ultrabeat (very flexible for tuning kicks), logic's (phase linear) EQ, into the ClassA_U compressor that comes with Logic Pro 8, do the trick for me.

Hey cannabis, i usually use -9db on kick, but isnt a rule.

All depends of the kick, there are kicks less pulsed that achieve very loud volumes at -9db, much more than pulsed ones.

If you like to tweak give a shot to a multiband compressor on the kick and a litle saturation too, also dont forget to open a analyzer together so you can understand exactly whats happening.

Whoa, just found out that PsyKick is from Speakafreaka.....very very nice! Got it randomly from someone and been using it ever since. Can't wait to try out v3!

To the person who posted about using Ableton's Operator for kicks.....it doesn't work very well because you don't have enough control over the envelopes. Sampler works much better because of the spline curves in Ableton v7, but ultimately doesn't work nearly as well as Speakafreaka's psykick.

I'm use Kontakt with 60Hz Sine according to the rules from SynSun video.
But when I finish work on kick I must render it to sample because Kontakt (v2) lose some notes. I don't know why :/

BTW. This metod is greatest for me. I don't like Bazzism too

Does anyone know of the SynSun video tut that he speaks of. Is it the video that is available here?:

Also, is there anyway to synthesize the kicks as instructed in the Alias and Infected Mushroom tuts in Waldorf Attack?

Thanks beforehand.

bazzism+editing in sound forge can make some killer kicks.everyone can learn , just look at the shape of a kick that you like and try eqing the kick in the right spots untill you see a similar structure.then pitch bend it up/down to your taste.

How you profi guys EQ the kick/ Do you EQ it at all?

There are some kicks that goat -15db at 15Hz and they sound great on their own. But this is too much low for the mix. When you lowcut it, only click stays and some mids.

What is the rule of thumb here? Should one use a kick that doesn't have too much lows in the first place, so you don't have to EQ it or what?

personally i do a notch cut at 600 hz of the kick to lose the "honk"' annoying sound of the kick, after this it sounds more clear.
another thing is , check if it's necessary to cut from the lowend before you do the cut , maybe your kick is not so strong and cutting the lowned will kill it.use your ears man it's all it takes
