the attack was set a bit too slow maybe but you got a pure sinewave with no shit freq all other the place

That's really cool, but I followed your other post and mine doesn't sound anything like that! I think I'm doing something wrong Could you add me on msn please and talk me through it!

Can one use phaser with 0 mod rate and depth, manually configured freq, etc on a kick? It makes it interesting sounding, though i don't know what it does to the overall low freq image. Anyone using that?

i had tried that but i thought i got a cleaner result by cutting freqs in the mid using an EQ. |

Ask hummingbird to upload Active Neo Psy -kicks to http://www.terrans.co.za/isratrance/
That's a permanet place for them.
If you can't catch him/her upload somewhere else, please. I'd like to have them and probably quite many other practitioners, too. |

i like bazzism or pitchbent sine in kontakt, soundforge or adobe audition.
when an equaliser i sometimes do this:
12dB lowpass at about 5 to 10k.
sometimes high resonance 2dB boost betwwen 1 and 3k (to bring out the click)
medium resonance cut by 2 to 3 dB at 500hz (to make it clean, if it isn't clean there already)
and a boost at around 60 to 150hz, if it needs a boost at all.
use an eq if it sounds somewhat unbalanced and unclean.
this is just an example..... and ofcourse some/most kicks an sound fat and clean enough without any EQing at all, but you can achieve different possibilties by using an EQ to actually shape the freqs in the sweep.
just start experimenting
use exoscope to see how pro kicks look,
on some pro kicks you will sometimes see 1s that have a dip in volume on waveform after the beginning click then a raise in volume after that,
this is a cut in the mid like i said earlier.
but fuck how it looks its how it sounds that matters.
i like bazzism because its easy to tune end of the kick
while the bassline is playing
and its how it fits in harmony in both key and frequencies spectrum with the bassline which is most important to achieving fat sound.
i think this is about all i can say about a kickdrum
hope this helps. |
