Has anyone ever used Stylus RMX for their kicks?

Hey there. I use Stylus RMX as well as hardware for kicks. If you want 'traditional' psy kicks, however, don't look for the core library sounds. I found some good kicks in several of the SAGE expanders you can buy, but it's probably cheaper/faster to just make your own patterns in your sequencer with an audio file of the kick sound you want to use.

I create loops in Cubase 4 on an audio track set to the tempo of the song I plan on using the kick in, and then bounce that pattern down to audio. Then you Recycle it into REX format. Then you just use the SAGE converter to convert the REX and then it's ready to import int Stylus RMX.

That's the fastest way I've been able to incorporate a solid Goa/Psy kick into RMX. I actually like using RMX more as a non-percussion sampler; you can do a lot of loop mangling and tweaking with its onboard effects.

I recently bought a Roland MC-808 and MC-505 for use in live chill/groove ambient situations, but they also have some nice 909 and 808 kicks on them that you can sample into your sequencer and then inmport to RMX (or any hardware synth you may have).

It may sound like a lot of steps, but honestly it's very easy and fast. Otherwise, you'll have to shop loop/sample vendors with collections that are already converted to REX format, and then you can just drop them onto the SAGE converter and import directly to RMX.

Peace,

Jim

with es1 you can make some good ones ,(maybe these setting will work with other vsti and synth)

Use only the sub oscillaotr with the noise waveforme , cut off 18 db , full resonance ,no keyboard tracking on the filter (you can adjust these settings to taste when it ll sound like a kick) analog at 0%, mod (i use around 1/3 envelop on the cutoff (short to medium mod env decay around 100 and 400 ms)fast amp attack for the click , adjust all to taste with your bassline playing .

holy shit,

i always thought it may be difficult to make a resokick with a synth. anyway i'm not very familiar with the es1 yet but i tried PoM's settings and gave it a chance...

boom

think i never use samples again ;-)
a little tweaking and it fits perfect with your bassline. and you can make really weird kicks if you want.
thanks for the advice. cool stuff

I'm use Kontakt with 60Hz Sine according to the rules from SynSun video.
But when I finish work on kick I must render it to sample because Kontakt (v2) lose some notes. I don't know why :/

BTW. This metod is greatest for me. I don't like Bazzism too

Is there supposed to be sound in the video? I'm not hearing anything in VLC, and RealPlayer won't play it because the video keeps crashing it.           When rain dries, clouds form.

Layer a hitat on top for the attack click cause the envelop when set too fast you loose lot of Db or maybe with a limiter... also you don t need the oscillator, set it too off, the self oscillating filter do the sinewave and try lot of mod envelop(3/4) with very short decay (around 10 ms). i tried with few vsti that have self oscillating filters but there are not as good as es1

here a sample http://www.sendspace.com/file/r9wa53
the attack was set a bit too slow maybe but you got a pure sinewave with no shit freq all other the place

u are right.

was very fascinated by the sound itself and didn't realize the dB thing first ;-)

its quite tricky to avoid this. thanks for the advice and the sample off course.

maybe i come with another question after reading some stuff about self-oscillating filters.

by the way i think you can also make really funny oldschool kicks with much longer decay and keyboard tracking...

I downloaded a while (?) ago Active Neo sy -kickdrums from their studio site. I found the link from this topic. Now I cannot find it.

Someone with the link please help.
The kicks were and hopefully still are a great help in music production.

Now I only find the recordlabel website which requires a password I don't have for the downloads/promo section.

The site featured two guy's studio gear, two great packs of downloadable kickdrums and something else I don't remember now.

Thank you all for helping me out <3

i think that i downloaded this kicks once (and never listened to them) but i'm not sure.
if i find them i can upload. but i'm quite busy and not at home the next days. so just check this topic a bit later. i'll post.

or you can pm Domi. He should know the pw.

cheers
