Yay bass topic. Was an interesting read.

Usually I use VB-1 for my mid bass and either agressor or vanguard for my sub bass.

There is one trick though that i cant do without.
Simply put, what i do is route the bass to a mixer channel, unroute that channel from the master, and then route it to two seperate channels.
Call one bass H and the other L and then apply cut offs to it.

On the Bass H channel, roll off everything under 150Hz, and on the Bass L channel roll off everything over 150Hz.

The nice thing about this method is that you can apply individual FX to either the H or L channel but can apply them globally via the "master" bass channel

Hey there,

Very interesting topic ;-) I've been making full-on basslines using Albino 3 ( as well as muon tau pro, pentagon and massive)

Using a saw wave and then adding other oscillators set at a lowpass with no (or very little resonance depends ;-) and playing around with them for more interesting combinations.

Release at zero, decay at zero, sustain all the way up, and attack at zero.

I add a waves 10 eq and cut below 31, give a boost at around 62 ( but always play a little bit), cut around 800-1000 quite a bit ( fiddle around in this range) and above 16000 or even lower ( I play with it.

I bounce down each note and open them in samplers with 0 release, attack, decay, and full sustain.

It sounds great for me . I find albino 3 has a lot of control. Sometimes I assign other oscillators to another filter as well.

I rarely use compression on my basslines.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this. It has been very useful to me

oh yeah i forgot to mention that I add a camel crusher with very low compression, only a tiny bit of distortion to each note before bouncing them ;-)

and also I make sure that every bass note is at the same volume level before bouncing ;-) can save alot of time

I use Sytrus for my basslines.
It's very flexible and easy to program.
Actually I use it for a lot of stuff...

There's no tellin with the bassline to cut where ever, depends how u have programed it first.
but usually use eqn12 and cut at 350hz.

when you guys use muon tau, does it glitch in the high end if you don't put the release filter envelope up? It does for me, but I'm not sure if it's just because of cubase 4 or my setup or whatever.

I still like VB-1. Just tried Vanguard, and that can make some really cool sounds. I don't think the envelopes are tight enough though. Cronox has tight envelopes, but after cutting off a certain point on the filter envelope, the pitch shifts down a little bit, which messes my stuff up. It's still very usable though, and you can just avoid this problem by raising the cutoff back up some more.

Trilogy rocks for those non-3 note rolling basslines, the slides can work really well. Even for the rolling lines, it works pretty well.

Albino, I need to start working with some more. Could someone upload a nice Albino Psybass patch? I'd like to see one. I couldn't really get a good sound out of it, and I know it's possible.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

I could never get a nice bass out of albino.

Even cosmosis's albino patches don't sound all that great to me, but I guess it's how you use them:

I really like sylenth these days It's slowly but surely replacing massive as my bass weapon of choice.

Cosmosis's basses are great actually...you have adjust the cutoff and envelope until it brings your kick in tight....

I am no expert on basslines yet, but lately I have been using his presets a lot, experimenting and then really tweaking them, especially for bass until they fit.....I am really starting to dig it..

Cutoff and envelope especially

assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

I get happier everyday with sylenth basslines. I'm using zero processing and they've never sounded better, just by tweaking the envelopes with the 12db slope I'm having some amazing results. I think I've finally got "that sound"

Uhh, bass, not my best topic. I'm a lot more of a Pad and Lead person. I focus on melody and progression and can make rather good (or at least I think they are good) pad and lead patches, but bass...

Most of my good bass patches have been by accident. I just did something that worked and could never quite reproduce it. Because of this I often use presets for bass but they are never what I want and I start digging myself into a hole trying to adjust them to what I want.

I have gotten marginally better but it is still a weak spot. I either give them too much presence or I just muddy up the track. I get too much presence because I guess I start trying to make a lead patch played really low, then I try and cut out the presense and muddy it up...

...I think time will be the only solution.

question to the low end...

lets take a simple saw wave.
if i compare it to other tracks, the subs are higher.
i tried RBass (waves) but i dont get it.

do you use EQ for this nice subs?

yeah sometimes i eq the sub if its not enough.
sylenth has much power in the sub, i think there is less needed.. so depends on the synth and your patch.

URS fulteq EQ is good.. some 60hz and 100hz boost

or lift the highpass.. a bit so that it boosts on the cut.. dunt know how to describe^^ i think you have to boost resonance on the hipass

good luck
