I posted this like 3 or 4 weeks ago! 40 downloads and no replies? Please, can I get some feedback? I would really appreciate it. |

sounds good...very thight tho ^^
But maybe u can try to play on lower notes to have it more muddy...seems like you're in C3 here, huh ?
And this one needs more EQ imo... |

First of all... Thanks for your input.
Nope, actually I'm not in C3 (MIDI). But I had it bumped up an octave in Predator intentionally.
Here's the pattern:
K-C1C2C1-K-C1C2C2-K-C1C1C2-K-C1C2C2-K
I dropped it back down so here it is an octave lower:

What do you think? Which is better?

hey bro
it's much better now. you got now the "body" of your bass. If i were you i'd try to boost some frequencies between 3000 and 4000 hz in order to have the attack...Also, if you have Cubase 4 u can try to put some Envelope Shaper which is an AWESOME plugin ^^
Oh, and in your mix i think your kick is too loud... but this is only my opinion
cheers |

I'm giving Schaack Transient Shaper a go since I don't have Cubase and I'm on a Mac. I also tried Flux Bittersweet II: http://www.fluxhome.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=100&Itemid=5
It's Freeware for Mac and Win! I'm not sure I liked it as much as Transient Shaper.
Hugaw-I turned the kick down and applied some EQ to it. I tried what you said about boosting freqs. Then I followed Computer Music Mag "EQing Bass" 3 step tutorial.
11.5dB boost at 89Hz - broad Q
4dB cut at 400Hz - wide Q
2.5dB boost at 4kHz - broad Q
Then I used Transient Shaper. I did it by ear since I've never used one of these before.
Sounds good to me...Yet I'm a total n00b. You tell me.

i think the CM mag's tutorial is ok for bass takes in a studio (like for a rock band or smthing), but it doesn't work with our bassline deal. first, pay attention to the levels when EQing (for example 11,5 db at 89 Hz is way too much) and also it is important to tweak your bassline within a mix. I mean, a bassline can sound good alone but in your mix it can be far different...
Remember that cutting frequencies instead of boosting them is the way to go... |

So, Hugaw, which freqs should I focus on cutting then? And how do I use a Transient/Envelope shaper? |

i dunno, depends of the synth, wave, envelope, etc...
Usually i lowpass 2 KHz @ -5db, do a little cut with tight Q around 100 Hz (for the kick), boost around 3,5KHz and so on...
Also, read the whole thread. it will help |
