similarly to what soulfood was saying, it's also worth using some distortion on basslines... sometimes just a little bit of mild warmth (for example the 'tube' distortion on CamelCrusher) can work wonders. |

After one year of name calling to people who are using the vb-1 i've finaly found the right way to use it.
And i fell in love!
I use it for groovy progressive basslines
Put an Rbass on it for extra bass(freq depends on the note ofcourse) and quadrafuzz with the standard preset(maybe boost the high mid eq a bit) and some eq'ing to cut out some highs(make a dip where the click is)
Very fat sound.
For more fat and less sterile sound i use the tritium(this one http://www.museresearch.com/kvr/i/b/tritium.gif )
It has a really fat sound but sometimes it hangs when you are solo'ing on the fly while playing back your project.
Takes some pressing space bar like a madman
For typical fullon basslines i use a scorpion(not that i make fullon, but just for fun;))
Also with rbass + quadrafuzz
This is just a mad combo, any synth will sound fat like this
Got this trick from mad contrabender.
What i do sometimes is separate the bass from the mid by doing two basslines.
Like this you have more space to tune.
For instance in our last track we used a tritium for the sub and an albino with a cosmosis bass patch for the mid sound.
Really tribal sound you can get this way
Also nice to make a sidechain sub and add a albino or vb on top

Good tip... Rbass & Quadrafuzz on vb1 sounds good.

Here's a great free vst for all sort of sounds, but in my opinion it makes some serious basses:

You only can buy them with Logic Pro as bundle. They might coem with Logic Express as well, dunno. Go to a music shop or friend who has Logic to try it out.
Most synths can do the same tho.

Use this scale to boost the correct frequencys on your bassline with the rbass(or eq/multiband compressor etc.)
http://www.phy.mtu.edu/~suits/notefreqs.html
Really good stuff, i applied it too all of my old tracks and it sounds incredible.

rendering rebel that means if we have a bass with all notes (or the base ones) on C1 we should boost the frequency of C1?
