hi to all of u bass addictions...
i dont know y i am the first one that
posting this tip... sham on u...
when u look at the pro's bassline
in soundforge u'll see that the nots are
diferent frome each other one of them is
clicy(very very small filter)
and the next one is not clicy (no highs)
like a medium filter on it...
and another tip is the lenth of the nots is not the same ex: if u make one not clicy
(open filter all the way 2 the right)
so make it 100 ms for psytrance(like dynamic)
and the next is 90 ms with med filter
(no hi's) but dont kill it ...
so it will b with some punch....
one more tip is when u use hi pitches nots
make them with low panch
so at the end will have something like:
use the filter env 2 change it....
kick 100-110ms
hi click 100ms
low click 90ms
med click 95/100ms
kick 100-110ms
low click 95 ms
med click 100
hi click 90ms
kick 100-110ms
med click 95
hi click 100ms
low click 90ms
kick 100-110ms
hi click 90ms
low click 100ms
med click 95ms
*dont make the low's 2 law !!!
let it have some hi's
last tip is 2 see in soundforg your favorites
basslines from artists and look fo the same
form of the waves in the vst's
hope it will clear the way... bye

Alright, Im going to tell you a secret weapon that no one knows its around, all people go around in circles around VB-1, vanguard, Tau Pro etc etc.
The real deal is called Komplexer by Terratec, its basd on WaldorfQ sound.
I know, no one has it.....but its there!!!
http://messe.harmony-central.com/Musikmesse05/Content/TerraTec/PR/Komplexer.html
And another beast it of course Zeta vsti.
Thats a monster.
Now, have fun with your new tips I passed you.
Cheers.

| My initial reaction to this VSTi after downloading the demo and playing with it for about 10-15 minutes:
Nothing ground breaking. I'd say "monster" is an exaggeration. It is a nice synth, has a nice FM implementation, reasonably dense sounding, they got the "komplex" part right, the interface does not look too user friendly but admittedly I am lazier than most. And you pay for that nice sound in CPU, which is typical.
But for basslines, even Tau is better, Vanguard is better, and really, nothing I have encountered in VSTi is really "great" except vanguard and to an extent Superwave.
This sounds to me like something that was designed in reaktor...replete with great wizzy noises and neat FX and a neat look and even some great sounding leads, just like Albino and such, but at the end of the day, it has slow filters and no real spit to its basslines. What's more there were dropouts although I think that was part of the demo.
Hate to sound so cynical but I am tired of people billing VSTis as the "next great thing" when a nord still does everything better especially for trance and music with punch. IMO Vanguard is still the only VSTi to write home about, I even have the Virus Powercore and although it's decent I think they boned up the filter implementation because it doesn't sound as good as my kb.
my 02c after about 15-20 minutes with it (which is about all it takes for me to say "eh" to a "pay to play" VSTi these days...) |

I like to use the Moog modular vst. Until I tried I never heard anything that sounded to full and thick. Very good bass indeed. |

You could always try a DIY bass of sorts, havnt tried this myself,....
but choose a fundamental frequency, say 30 Hz, and make a 30 hz sine wave, then layer on top of that (seperate tracks) the next 4 or 5 harmonics (4 probably better) i.e. 60,120,240,480 Hz (for this example)
Eq and compress accordingly....
if you are bored , give it a try~! |

| lol that is from an old thread i started on cubase.net a few years back...it was a great thread, I believe titled "Ever notice that converting MIDI to Audio Inadvertently Results in the Need for Remix?" and of course steinberg in their infinite slack took the old archive offline and probably deleted all the shit. it was an awesome discussion with a lot of talk about work methods, and now it's probably deleted forever.... |

This is an old one but a good one... Never heard of anyone trying it in psytrance though...
Make ur bassline, render it after it's done, and convert the bitdepth to 8 or 12 bits or convert the rate to 22kHz. save it, and open it again.
Convert it back to 16bit 44kHz (or whatever the quality ur working on). The effect of making it lofi will add crunch and make it punchier, and by converting it back the effects u put on it afterwards will sound good for quality.
recording a basss to tape, and then recording it back into the pc will add punch and grit too... |
