My tutorial.
I like to create deep basses, i'm kinda house producer but anyway some of you will find it intresting.
I take any analogue alike VST-i (ie. Moog, Minimonsta, Albino). Create my tune and try to filter out half range till 1000hz. Then i apply delay effect (if there is native vsti effect). Apply small amount of delay and feedback.
Now i wish to increase delay and create more constant signal coming from bassline, so i apply limiter or any other hard compression (ie. Waves Ultramaximazer, PSP packs). I move down levels of threshold and attack that way so i will hear constant deep singal from bass with minimal attack.
Now i apply kick drum and side chain trigger so i can connect bassline with sidechain to kick.
This way i get deep and constant bassline which crossfades with kick giving space to everything.
Now the time for last tweak and it's native filter of VSTi i used for bassline creation, every small change there will be maximazed and will create an instresting effect to your sound by tweaking one simple knob.
Good luck |

how about a little attention to drugs which would end war?"

Hi all.
First I want to say a big thanks to Mike A for his tutorial. Truly increcible and very helpful!
I have been making music for a long time, but have been agonizing over the elusive trance bass. I new it was a kbbb type thing, but it never occured to me to use really short note lengths. Also the part about SC compression, I always thought it was just kind of a nice effect, and tend to try to stay away from extra EQ and compression, but after seeing the tutorial it all made sense. I didnt realize at first it was so integral to the sound (which it is for that puslating effect).
Definitely it can be said trance has a signature sound. I have been mentally debating this with myself for half a year now. Kind of like blues uses the blues scale, and thats what makes it bluesy. On a side note, if the blues were kept an insiders circle, Jimmy Page would probably not have been able to do what he did with Led Zeppelin.
So thank you all very much for sharing, and someday if I can return the favor I most defintely will. very good psy-karma here!
A question though, maybe to expand on this thread:
What is the different between full-on bass and psytrance bass?

A little thing I figured out about Tau Pro if anyone uses that - Everyone seems to recommend using 1/64th quantisation, which is a good start... but from there turn off the quant. and try and estimate 1/128 by hand, suddenly, the envelope response time problem is gone. It sounds snappy and fat.
Also, try using the sync and balance dial with Saw 1 on Osc 1 and Saw 2 on Osc 2 - this way lies much fatness. With the right filter settings, you don't need any effects at all, apart from maybe a little bit of cut.

click the above for a screenshot of the type of thing I'm currently using (not precise)
IMHO avoid VB-1
