In the last month's I've been using two bass chanels. Imo better than a single chanel. I first begin with the sub bass, tweeking that long till it fits well with the kick. Afterwards the rest It's a bit of handycraft, but the result is for me more satisfying.

and what instrument do u use for ur bass ?

Mostly Sylenth1, also very good is Trilian, Waldorf Largo, Cronnox2 and and and... In fact it is possible with every synth. Choose this one which is most comfortable for you.

I'm very interested in how to EQ the bass.
I always used to lowcut at 31 hZ, highcut between 1000 and 3000 hZ, maybe cut around 500 - 800 and increase one time in the very low section under 100 hz, one time between 100 and 200, and one time around 250 hZ, always at the keynote frequency.
Now I heard the suggestion to cut between 250 and 400 hZ. Do u do so also? What surroundings have to exist that a cutting in this range would make sense?

I wouldn't do that. I think a cut between 250 and 400hz would make the thing a bit mudy. But it depends also on which scale you play the bassline i guess. Increasing freq is ok, but just slightly.
But here's a hint if you use cubase: Instead of increasing very low freq on your eq open an audio lane (mono) and put a Testgenerator on it. Now calculate which keynote frequency your bassline is playing. Scal 5 is a great tool for it and its for free. If you found the right freq, put a gate on the same lane, tweek the treshold until you stop hearing the signal. After that, press the sidechain button on the gate. Now route the gate sidechain over the send effect of your lane where the kick is playing. Everytime when the kick is playing, it activates the Testgenerator. With that you got a huge punchy sub bass in your tracks http://soundcloud.com/catweazle-psytrance-music www.facebook.com/chillweazle

oh, and big +1 to SoundToys Decapitator for bass....really fucking awesome plugin for all sorts of funky saturation/distortion....haven't played with anything remotely as ear-pleasing in the distortion/saturation category.

usually when the bass is playin at a higher key/note i feel the lower frequencies are lost....

i would suggest you, to use a 2-band bass if your are doing fancy stuff. use a sine wave for the subs and whatever you want for everything after the subfeqs. (make sure to EQ)
that way you make sure you have no loss if you are going very high.
