Nope. Sorry. Sarcasm was invented in Macon, Georgia on August 15, 1874 and is first documented in New England archives no earlier than September 8, 1876. Perhaps you are thinking of Parody, which has no accurately documented history, but is rumored to have been invented by King James the second as a way of demoralizing those colonies that began showing signs of rebellion.

*biting his lips*

"Sarcasm" appeared in English in 1579, from Late Latin "sarcasmos," in turn from Hellenistic or Medieval Greek "sarkasmos," and ancient Greek word Sarkazo, meaning 'to tear flesh'..'to bite your lips').
Irony clearly encompasses the concept of sarcasm, although Socrates, considered the father of dissembling irony, was not sarcastic. Sarcasm is frequently referred to as the "lowest form of wit" (a quote from Oscar Wilde, who was of course being sarcastic himself).

From what I understand, Socrates and Oscar Wilde used to discuss the concept of sarcasmos at great length. Eventually leading to the birth of many styles of humor, philosophies, plays, and even a full length feature film by Steven Spielberg.

*This statement is actually an illustration of "surreal humor" and not "sarcasmos" *

Tutorial: How to be Sarcastic

As mentioned above sarcasm is usually innate; however, if you would still like to attempt developing this ability, your chances of success would be greatly increased if you are intelligent, or at the least not mentally incapable of detecting and reproducing sarcastic remarks. Because if you cannot make your very own sarcastic comments, you can still pass as having some grasp of this art by being able to recognize sarcasm when it is produced by someone else, and be able to retain it in memory long enough to use it at a later time when that particular sarcastic remark would be relevant.

Sarcasm was created in 1810 by Johnathan Sarcass, a butcher from Shadwell, well known for his rotten sausages.

actually, neither - I am dead serious. But I'm glad everyone here can kid themselves into being musically relevant with their half-witty sarcasms.

anyone who thinks sarcasm was not invented thousands of years ago is fooled (except vector who use it sucessfully about the birth place).

for some reason i get what you mean vector. i also really think 99% of all the chill/psy/ambient is very very uninterresting, similar, boring, by-the-book, dull, stereotypic and flat out untalented.

way too many artists just show off their skill with their audio creating program, and totally over-exploit the minor chord. in fact, i doubt more than half of them even know what a minor chord is, but to be honest i think chill is the only genre that is overdoing minor chords more than black metal. while it shows skills in creating electronic music, the music itself is about as creative as that da doo run run song.

still i love the few few gold nuggets that are produced by talented artists out there. they are not many, but their albums are pure quality, it contains thought, talent and feeling and time, while a vast majority just produce the same untalented crap in new wrapping over and over again.

start quiet, fade in a note or two, add a backbeat minor chord going, *dud*.. *dud*.. *dud*.. add a few birds or a goat or whatever, slowly bring on beats together with a melody containing a brand new variation of 4-10 tones in a minor scale. proceed to vary this by adding a middeli middeli for a while, then after a quiet breakdown bring it back on for a few minutes and fade out.

with small variations, thats what 9/10 artists use, over and over again. then again, most genres can be broke down this way. chill is just so new and filled with totally untalented musicians that you start to wonder if they would get a melodic shock from hearing a mixolydian scale progress or a even just an aeolian melody. for those of you who barely knows more than you care about that stuff, its pretty simple and creates other modes than the traditional minor style. what i am saying is that in 30 years you might remember a few artists from every year, kind of like you do with 70s rock or what have you. (and no, dont start with JMJ going on since the 70's.)

i still love the artists that know more about music than anyone who took theory for three weeks. ott and posford, hillier, gaudi, namlook etc. are good examples.

and yeah, anyone can actually create most of the music that is called chill. if only they took the time to learn the programs, wich they dont. making a five note song isn't deep, it is untalented and boring and it doesnt leave any mark in music history. but you still shouldnt give up on the genre at all, since almost every genre consists of 99% untalented copycats and 1% avant-garde musicians =)

this is my opinion only, and i do not wish to name any artists/bands that i feel aren't really my tea, that brings nothing to anyone. it is better to bring forth the good ones!           an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind
