the inflationary use of the term "psychedelic"

i see this everywhere recently. for example people share DJ mixes with tracks by artists like Neelix, Rocky, Zyce, etc and call this "psychedelic progressive". but in what way is this music psychedelic? not at all imo. not saying that this kind of music sucks. in fact it's trance music, sometimes even great trance music, but i don't spot anything psychedelic there.

and after thinking about it, same applies to many Goa Trance artists. for example Koxbox, Hallucinogen, Nervasystem and many other artists made indeed psychedelic music. but i don't know any track by Astral Projection (for example) that i would call psychedelic. although i love many of their tracks, it's just great trance music for me, but not psychedelic.

can't say anything about other styles of "psy" trance, but i guess there are such cases as well.

so my impression is that the term "psychedelic" is used way too often, maybe just because it sounds cool somehow. what do you think?
am i wrong?

Psychedelic is a term which meaning and interpretation is subjective, if you search for it definition:

The term psychedelic is derived from the Greek words ψυχή (psyche, "soul") and δηλοῦν (deloun, "to manifest"), translating to "soul-manifesting". A psychedelic experience is characterized by the perception of aspects of one's mind previously unknown, or by the creative exuberance of the mind liberated from its ostensibly ordinary fetters. Psychedelic states are an array of experiences elicited by various techniques, including sensory stimulation, sensory deprivation as well as by psychedelic substances. Such experiences include hallucinations, changes of perception, synesthesia, altered states of awareness, mystical states, and occasionally states resembling psychosis.

Its in my opinion a very personal thing. So for someone it can be psychdelic, for others dont. Who cares? Have fun and enjoy, dont worry about what people call music.

Does the music make you feel funny? Does it some times make you feel "different" "intoxicated" "dizzy" ever see sound? How did the song make you feel emotionally?

All of these questions, i ask myself, and that's what psychedelic is to me...

mind manifesting by definition..but WTF that could be anything....            WARNING: The Reality Master General has determined that Mr. Vomit may significantly alter your reality. Usage of the knowledge provided by Mr. Vomit may be perceived as dangerous and subversive by those in authority.

Polka will be trippy when using A**d.

True trippy (psychedelic) music does not need the support from A**d.           www.beatagency.dk

Well you've got to be some genius music producer to get me trippin without certain substances.

And to me it's very much is a difference between day and night, listening to Psytrance with or without drugs.

A lot of genre names don't make much sense.. It is just a name people gave it to distinguish it from something else.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

Adding the "psy" prefix to a word automatically makes it trippier. (Especially when printed on a flyer)

Example: This thread is psyboring as hell!

Psychedelic to me is just another label, I am simply producing my music, if someone calls it psychedelic, so be it... At least for them...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

I totally agree. It's beautiful atmospheric melodic Trance. But it's not psychedelic. KoxBox was psychedelic. Just to make an example of what I consider psychedelic versus. Melodic non psychedelic.           www.beatagency.dk
