I have always find extreme atheist as annoying as extreme religious people.

Can they just let other live happily and dont judge their choices?

SO its also super dumb:

WOw i have discover religion is futile
Now I have to telll everyone my discovery and shout all over the place, cause talking about religion is the best thing i can think of doing after discovering its futile....

People like that are the reason I'm agnostic. The moment you believe in something that extremely, you are just as religious as the ideologies you preach against.

And yes, these guys are preachers - one god, many gods, no god... it really makes no difference, they are all equally sitting on that scale from condescending to annoying of telling people how they should think.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

The problem is believe. When we believe we don't know. So I prefer to say I don't know, because when I don't know it doesn't necessarily mean I believe...

It’s actually the other way around: instead of “when we believe we don’t know” it’s “when we don’t know we believe”. Some things we simply cannot know – whether because the answer is not available to us in particular or is unknowable in principle. In these cases, as soon as you formed an opinion you formed a belief.

There is only one case when one can say “I don’t know” honestly: if he never cared enough to form an opinion. This is very rare. In most cases (at least in my experience), people say “I don’t know” when they don’t want to commit to their opinion and/or declare their belief.

Being a scientist, I am constantly surrounded by hundreds of self-professed agnostics. Yet, in my entire life I’ve met only one true agnostic. He was a mentally retarded kid. When another kid asked him whether he believed in God, the answer was: “What are you talking about?” The concept of God was never introduced to him by people around him and he did not have mental capacity to ask the right questions that would lead him to this concept. That’s all – one person out of hundreds I’ve met. Everybody else was a “fake agnostic”.

When you hear somebody say “I don’t know whether God exists or not”, the person in question in fact either believes in God or is an atheist – but won’t admit it (oftentimes even to himself). If you ever thought about this question – you already have an answer. Your answer may have changed with time, but you always have it – and it’s not “I don’t know”.

Calling God “The Primal Origin”, “The Basis of All Being”, “The Ultimate Why”, “The World Spirit” or whatever else people say just to distinguish their beliefs from “official” religion does not make one agnostic. Saying things like “I don’t need to bring God into equation” does not make one agnostic either. The first person is a believer, the second person is not – however passionately they cry “I don’t know”.

Agnostics are totally weak! If a person is gonna be brave enough to move their position away from the typical judeo-christian upbringing then why not go all the way to full blown atheists!? It's like agnostics are taking a more politically correct position on god/religion/spirituality because society couldn't handle all these people moving to full blown atheists. Come on' agnostics...stop being so polite about god/religion.

God is just not a correct model of how our natural world actually works. God(s) came about at a time when mankind was far more ignorant about how our natural world works as compared to modern man. It's a psychologocial and social phenomenom, once useful to our evolution but is now a hinderance that needs to be shed quickly.

God is the worst cognitive misstep of mankinds entire history since we thought the Earth was flat and Universe revolved around us.

I'm wearing my Heathen Atheist tshirt to the polls tomorrow!

The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

@Pauldo:
I wouldn't say they're weak. Sometimes a seemingly easy decision (like the one not to declare one’s faith) is actually a difficult one. You’ll wear your “Heathen Atheist” shirt to the polls. I will not go to the polls today at all. And it was a very difficult decision for me to make.

You sound a lot like a “recovering Catholic” (although you may not be one). I’ve met many of those. Some of them rebel against the Church’s social policies (like rejecting divorcees, for example). Others realize the picture of God they were fed in Sunday school is a fairy tale – so they go to the extreme and denounce the whole idea of God altogether. When you’re talking about that “cognitive misstep”, you are actually thinking about Zeus and Thor and other big bearded dudes arbitrarily dealing thunderbolts to some poor peasants. You’re not talking about the abstract and fundamentally unknowable source of all being (which may not even be a person in a human sense). You threw baby away with the bath water as a result.

Bringing this kind of abstract God into our model of the world does not really make any difference scientifically. It only makes a difference to you on the personal level. When you discover something new, you can say: “It’s cool that Nature is this way” or you can say “It’s cool that God designed it this way”. You still applied the same scientific method to discover what you discovered. And you still don’t know didly squat beyond your discovery. And people afterwards will dig deeper and discover more – ad infinitum, because there is always more to learn. An atheist and a believer in God will do it exactly the same way and make exactly same discoveries. It’s just that the former is more of a natural philosopher (describing what is in front of him) and the latter is more of an engineer or a psychologist (trying to understand the Designers mind). I personally prefer the “reverse engineering” path, but the end results will be the same in both cases.

I am a "religious agnostic".
I believe in God (not the thunderbolt-thowing kind, though). But I can't claim I know how It operates.

The more time I spend in science (which is most of my life), the more my belief in a Designer is reaffirmed. And as my belief strengthens, the more curious I become about the Design itself (what atheists would call "laws of Nature"). So, science makes me a stronger believer and my belief makes me a better scientist.

Booh Coon! Boo!

Yeah I remember clearly when I was a wee lad making a clear choice to become an Atheist because of masturbation. It was a choice between god or masturbation and I certainely wasn't gonna stop wanking it...sooo god had to go!

Very glad I was raised catholic, that religion is choc-full of cognitive missteps. Catholicism helped me to sharpen my arguments against god, religion and magical thinking.

Yeah I'll agree an Atheist and a believer may arrive at the same conclusions, the only difference is that Atheism doesn't have the milleniums worth of dead bodies that religious faith has.

Pauldo, God forgives you for wanking it... all you have to do is tell the priest about it!

Yes! Coon's still got it!
My "recovering Catholics radar" still works.

I suggest you read about Stalin then. I'd give you some links here but it's already in the no-no territory.
