I think the producer needs much more equipment than a Dj...A Dj needs not only the equipment to play but the producer also! Dj can be creative in there mixes and selections but the producer creates what the Dj mixes so...

indeed.
but i think DJ´s job needs more the equipment.
i see it like this:
Dj´s exists because they r creative because it would be dumb just to mechanically play one song after another, in that case it would be stoopid to pay some one just to play songs. and with out equipment it would be imposible for them to make a desent performance.
but a producer can do a lot of things only using a sequencer sampler, and nowadays there is a lot of freeware for this.

so imho i think...
that a Dj needs more the equipment to grow as an artist than a producer.

What kind of equipment does a dj need? Pair of good Cdj's and mixer soem effects maybe and then what? A producer has an endless list of equipment he needs to buy man! And if you think a producer can do do a lot of things only using a sequencer sampler, then you really do not know what your talking about! Because a really good producer does not go on stage with just that it's a whole lot of equipment to play live! Maybe ok today more software artists are using only the computer and maybe it seems easy but look at the result they get man! To be a really producer you need an endless list of equipment, for a dj it's a pretty simple job man!

          Boom :)

Is not the most important the imagination and the music? I think that is the most because both needs a proper equipment to do they job good but the difference is what do you have in the head to create something different to the people so . .           Michael Jackson "Some people prefer to take life as it is without complications, some others we like to take life from the cornice of the wildest jungle"

everyone can be a fake dj,by playng music with a mixed cd and pretend making changes...
but a producer needs to spend lots of hours with technology...           ~~~~~~~namaskar~~~~~~~~~

Soul KONTAKT:

well man.
imho... im tired of cdjs!, i honestly never used one! but u cant deny its easily recognizable!
and then you are talking about!
performing! not producing!
as Gopinesh said about fake dj´s there also can be easily made a fake live-act... even so.

fake dj-sets and fake live-acts SURELY
suck-asss!

a producers job, i insist, can reach higher quality levels with less money, than a dJ.

DJ`s work is all about performance.
And producers surely its more than that!, but i think u can make more with less in producers case!

they both are as important:

producers need lots of equipment to produce their tracks

dj's with more mixing abilities can better make "a journey" they find worth walking

both are different yet having the same goal: to make you dance or listen or chill or....

that's an art on itself

you won't enjoy a bad producer
you won't enjoy a bad dj

that simple           no situation is stronger then a heart that dares to love
so may the force of life light and love be with you

I think one cannot live without the other, it's just two different but important fields either dj as well as a producer is covering. Well, if you're a honest DJ you'll buy the cd's, but otherwise, isn't being a dj like, being a pianist, going somewhere to play on an instrument that belongs to someone else... in fact you don't need much gear. I agree that the job of a dj needs of course creativity. But even with the best equipment, the creativity will be restricted just regarding the fact that u cannot really produce while mixing.

I would surely assume that a producer needs far more equipment... i mean even if one is producing on just a pc and a set of speakers, you'd still call all those plugins -even if thei're software- he's using "equipment" wouldnt you?
