and if we already speak about sell and all this i have one thoing to say and make u think about that.
did u thought once how its possible that most of the ppl like full on but there is alot new progressive/minimal labels that sell and alive anyway ?? how its possible so litlle community as we (minimal/progressive/innovators) can make so many labels alive ?? from my expirience ppl who listen to that kind of stuff buy cd's and full on (skazi/tip crew/alien project) lovers find its very well to download all stuff.. in the full on scene the unreleased is a keyword but into proogy tribe good taste is a name of the game..
think about that.. small community with alot new labels that everyone sell more or less and from other side big community with alsmot no new labels that every day cry about how not good they sell.. interesting..
  Believe your soul ! |

Well, you know what mr. zombie, i have some things to say.
First, i feel sorry that all the "Flying Rhino" discussion is somehow have turned into mp3 piracy and Full on VS Minimal discussion.
Second: i don't understand why and how can you judge me, i collect music since i remember myself in all the possible ways, if it's cassettes (until 10 years ago) if it's original CD's and if it's Burned/Downloaded music.
Now, during my obsession i have spent thousands of Shekels on Original CDs (Never ever on Fake ones), posters and recently DVD's.
And as one chinese wisdom tells, "with the taste comes the appetite". Which means that the more ORIGINAL cds i buy the more of it i wanna get.
Well i CAN'T financially.
And then came this MP3 technology which, yes i use and love for a lot of reasons.
And YES i do have a lot of MP3 cd's, but i will NOT ever feel sorry for it. Why? Because i DO buy original music, and a lot. I have more than 100 original cds and i never had a steady income in the last 5 years, when my addiction got really scary scales.
And 80% of stuff that i have on the MP3 cd's is stuff that i would never buy otherwise (there's a lot of Minimal and Progressive s**t there), stuff that i never could find elsewhere (unreleased stuff and bootlegs) and there's the 20% that, well, i didn't find the money for it.
And another thing, In the battle for survival in the Trance scene the labels that will survive are those who will release the best music. And not those who will release boring music in disguise of "progressive or minimal".
Flying Rhino was doing it and it fell, no matter what was the straw that broke the camel's back.
And as for my favorite labels (which i BUY their original cd's and support them because they deserve it) like BNE, Twisted, TIP.World, Phonokol and Hommega i sure we will be hearing a lot of great stuff from them soon.
I know that 90% of what i wrote was but hell, i had to much on my chest
That's all.
PLUR, if it still means anything to you.
Everyone in the world is doing something without me |

Singularity (released a year ago, for all you guys with short memories) was one of the best trance compilations of 2001, and Flying Rhino have been one of my favorite labels for years. It's a shame that one of the more interesting labels in trance history is being closed.
A sad day.
Ninja: Flying Rhino had a far more diverse line in music than TIP World. The thing that killed Flying Rhino is that they release music that is made to be music, not dancefloor material. That attitude just doesn't sell (1997 was the beginning of this trend IMO, that's when the DJs finally took the job of setting the trends in the trance world from the labels).
Flying Rhino weren't commercial enough to survive when mp3 trading has gotten to where it is today. That's the sad truth. You either have to be a superstar filled label (Twisted, Spirit Zone), a commercial one (*cough*TIP World*cough*), or reach for a specific audience (Digital Structures, Boshke Beats). Surviving any other way is an uphill battle.

fucked up shit!
I've just send my demo cd to them few weeks ago....
if this is all true and confirmed, then I must've been wrong about the label
I loved flying rhino so much! Such a pioneer in all the music we've been listening in the past and the present...indeed a sad day to me now.

have to add my condolences to one of the pioneering label who started it all.
One of the labels who dragged me and my brain into this amazing world called trance,
And a label from whom I took a lot of example in my approach towards the music business as a business (let aside the other aspects).
Its sad and bad for our community to lose such a senior member and lets hope its the last one though i know for fact that it is definitely not the last one falling.
As for the minimal vs full on/ selling vs not selling issue, from my own experience as a compulsive buyer and as a seller I can tell you that it depends 80% on the quality of the cd musicwise.
most people do not haste in buying cd and listen a lot before they actually buy and they will usually go for what they hear rather than what they see, so even if the title is commercial music it doesnt mean it will sell and vise versa if a minimal cd is good it will sell good period.
may we have better days soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 |
