First time I heard the term 'dark-psy' (form the word as you wish) I understood that it was psy-trance that had a darker feeling, touch or vibe to it. A variant of psy-trance that was fitted better to be played at night when it's dark (moonlight anyone?). What’s so hard to understand about that? Why make such a fuzz over a word that simply describes a vibe? Psykovsky's album (Ie.) isn't either dark nor light. It just 'is'. A perfect psychedelic experience. But if a friend asks me what kind of psy-trance it is, I will without hesitation say that it's a psy-trance album which leans more or less over to the dark side. A misty album of a lot of nightly imagination filled with colours, light, darkness and overall.. emotions.

Peace, love, light and darkness

Yeah Spytooned and Daark I agree 101%

Seriously people........just because something is not xplicitly happy sounding does it become dark?

A lot of earlier psy had a "darker" mysterious vibe to it. That is what attracted me to it in the first place...after all at its very essence psychedelic music (imo) tries to emulate and mirror emotions experienced in altered states..

Isnt the psychedlic experience a leap of faith? A jump into the great unknown, the chaos, the darkness?

mhm, that too (it didnt have any bounderies, boxes ect) Psychedelics (drugs and music) are mysterious. And for me all psy-trance sounded mysterious, it was 'it's' thing. Mysterious vibration, something unknown and exiting. Keep the vibe alive, keep it mystical, either it's sunny, darky or dinner.

ja mann. .. many people do not want to, or simply don’t understand this simple fact. The music is meant to interact with the frequencies of the substance. They go hand in hand like the best matched lovers of the universe.

It is a shame for people being so closeminded too see that it doesnt matter how it is called as long it has the right vibe in it!!!

PEACE AND LOVE !!!

Guys, It's just a quick ref. that came to my mind to give a quick and brief answer to the writer of the question.

I didn't write this encyclopedia, and I don't have a PHD in psy-trance like you guys!

If you are so concerned, why don't you write your own encyclopedia? as most of the people in this website are Gods of Trance music.

and pls stop asking questions that why article say this and that cuz I didn't launch this encyclopedia.

Hmm I'd like to give this a shot.

Okay so you have a keyboard with however many notes (61,88,...). Theres the left 'side' with the happy 'morning' tweaky sounding notes. Theres the right side with the 'dark' booming rumbling notes.

Most producers will use a MIDI based keyboard over which they add VSTs (which are like sound filters). This is what u would use if ure not making the sounds from simple wave oscillations.

So the basic structure is a kick and a bass. Both would use the scale... lower note basslines give the rumbling effect.. couple that with a low pitch kick and you have the daaark sounding structure. Up the bassline and the kick pitch and youve got a full on kick.

That pretty mucht the basis of it. Then theres leads, atmospheres, effects,samples... all that can range anywhere on that scale. You can have a high pitched bassline and lots of wierd modulated effects and leads and you have something like Highko. Lower basslines and kicks with all base effects and leads and you have Jellyheadz. High pitched basslines and kick with melodies on high notes and you have a full on sound.

This is just bringing it to the basics... all these producers put a lot more into their work. Many acoustic/analog instruments can go over the electronic bits.
But this basic structure is what leads to people defining it as dark or morning... its just the feeling... the same feeling you get when you strike notes on a piano.

When I dont want to describe each element to communicate what im talking about I'll be lazy and call some music dark. I'd doesnt do justice to the complexity of the work but I dont think its a strikemedead sin either.
Its a lot to analyze. talking about it can be a waste of time...just listen, think/trip/visualise/freakout/blankout/whatuwill and dance.
