and another thing is that the ambient scene is way smaller than the trance scene (which is growing rapidly).           REHAB is for quitters

Has this turned into ambient vs trance thread?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

I also ambient will grow bigger in the future. But ambient requires really good sound quality. Of course every music does that but for example with trance, you always have a bassdrum, and the more bass you have, the less you hear of other sounds. But Ambient (real ambient with no, or almoust no beats) is more floating and often have strings so you need to hear it all perfectly. I mean, one "hack" and you get a much bigger hack in your mind           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

More and more of my friends are into ambient/chill, there is just so much more to discover in ambient. Maybe I am growing a bit out of "bang ts bang ts"

I dont believe that there's a music style that will be 'the future'. people are always looking for changes - as so ambient is a change for a lot of people, who got used to psy/tech and all the other fast and bumping styles...

all the music we hear is the future:
The Future is NOW.

At home I am mostly listening to ambient, of course when I go out to parties it's full on.

But then again I am more at home then out.

Ambient and Trance - FOr Me if the ambient is from samples of GOa (TB etc..) so it is trance.

for me :
"GREAT AMBIENT = LOW BPM GOA TRANCE"

examples : Astral,Total Eclispe,Shpongle (A little),
and more..

I know for sure than ambient and chill out will be more listened in the future but will not take any space of psytrance of course!
Ambient borns before the trance, but certainly both are roots of psytrance...and share elements naturaly...

Shpongle RULES!!!!!!!!!! It's THE CONNECTION between everything!!!!

Well, ambient is a HUGE style. Much more varied than trance or any other form of electronic music - since there are no real "laws" to define it. In a way - trance is developing in the same way as ambient - only about 10-15 years before.

Ambient started developing in the 70s (even though moves towards this style were there since the 60s), when it was a freeform electronic music that was intended on being relaxing and deep. In the 80s, ambient was much more well defined, and became much more proffesional. It remained on this path until such acts as FSOL and Aphex Twin in the 90s broke away from all of the conventions that were considered important in the 80s, and now ambient is such a big style that it's really amazing what can be done in it, and new frontiers are being explored all the time.

Trance music is music that gets you into a trance - that's also a huge definition that was greatly narrowed with time. Let's see when that convention breaks as well... I can't wait           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

The word "ambient" in itself, is a rather poor choise for this kind of music.

I agree with kaz, ambient is a huge style, god knows what it will bring us next...
