I don't think the psy-trance scene will grow to encompass everyone on the planet. There are many routes to the spiritual life and for some people the trance scene provides one of them. But there are as many routes to God (or whatever) as there are people, and we must never deny others their choice of devotion. Many people don't believe in a God, and that's also a choice we must respect.

We are not 'the chosen few'; trance will not save the planet (more's the pity) and neither does loving trance music guarantee an escape from Samsara. What it can do, through regular and prolonged doses of moving meditation, is to provide a framework for life in which one can choose to act from one's highest intentions and thereby improve your own life and that of those around you. It can be a route to mindfulness - but the mindfulness itself must come from you.

Wicker i understand fully what you mean i feel exactly the same way, as for the future what it will hold? I have seen the scene growing bigger and bigger and the music evolving now even commercial and this really hits my hearth wrongly! I am one which live for the music for me it is my way to link to the universe within the egoless dome of God so seeing the scene go commercial i was bashed but then i noticed also that the scene was full of people and even though they do not see trance as spiritual i am sure that through good music you get there so now i say the future holds a tribe one big multinational tribe living, dancing, laughing and enjoying life, taking care of one another and one with god and the nature with one kind of music - Good good good music made from our deepest hearth and soul!

I am sure we will get there one day and i am one who is dedicated to make this dream become reality it is there we only need to find the way to do it even better!

I belive psytrance will have the same terrible outcom as regular trance had (Tiesto ect ect), trance used to be a great "underground" style. Mmmm.. I just loved the old trance compilations. Like "Magik 1 & 2" and "Forbidden Paradise". The thing that ruined it was of cource.

- It became to popular among the common people.
- They began to add cheesy lyrics.
- They made it more.. mmm.. Userfriendly.

Ergo, in the end it got to mainstream, where money was the goal. The same tragic things are now as I can see happening to psytrance.
So yes, i think that psytrance will grow to become to big and way to mainstream one day. This is called Capetalism, and it seemes it cant really be stopped.

But fear not, i belive that there will always exist "real" psy-artists that will be faithfull to the Goa/psytrance concept. But many, many will go over to the "dark" side.

I belive that psy music is the future! For the better or worse..

There will always be artist who gives his life to make music from his soul in order to keep souls like ours awake and even though many will fall into the commercial money trap after you advance from that stage you start loving the real music! So i think more people become enlightened by this way!
We need more dedicated artists!!!! More more more!!

Bahh... I thought it was a topic about Northern Soul...

For those that dont know - Northern Soul was an underground movement in the North of the UK in the mid 70s that was into ever more obscure and "authentic" Soul tunes and travelling round the country to hear their fave Djs play at allnighters, shunning the commercial sounds of the day. They described theselves as the "Chosen Few" which goes to show there's nothing new under the sun...

All the CandyRavers and commercial trash,

I feel a spiritual bond to some of this music, i cant even begin to express the feeling that comes over me...it's 3am, i have woke up in the middle of the night. I stumble outside under the moonlight with a bong and my headphones. The music creates this illusion, this magic world of hope of possibilities around me. Even if i am high i feel a deep connection with the music & earth as my eyes fill with half tears as i look up the night sky, knowing that each of us we are all so small compared to everything that has happened here and out there beyond, and that even after we are gone things will still be happening. Knowing also there are so many experiences i will feel and so many i will never feel. It's mysterious, it's magical. Am i the only one that does this, i love just listening and enjoying the scenery around me, Psy isnt just for dancing to. I just love this music, every song has its own flavor & story. I love the layers, the effects, the samples, and the genius things that are mixed into every track (the good one's that is) I know Psy didnt originate from here as in usa (obviously) haha i am just glad that all of you, my brothers of other countries have brought me this beautiful music that can have multiple meanings for multiple people and different sensations mixed with mind altering stuff as well. Everytime a new track or album comes out its like a birthday for me. Well i believe i rambled long enough...

If the trance culture would have any DEEP spirituality to it, there may have been a chance for it to change something in the world - even though it's doubtful that it would ever be big and organized to do such a thing. The chosen few? Where's our prophet? Who will lead us into the future to do something? The trance scene is incapable of doing anything bigger than a hedonistic festival. Excuse me when I point out the fact that this will never be more than a few thousands of people dancing. Not in the current format. A million Astrix wannabes and a million Astrix fans, all screaming about how original and underground psytrance is. About how much they're individuals with the REAL view of the world on their side. Kids munching pills and then raving on about their spirituality when it's nothing more than a chemical illusion that can harm them even more than it can help.

All this talk stinks of the smug sense of superiority people have in our scene. Be honest - what is the great truth that the psy scene reveals? What is it about this music that will bring the masses together? Why can it do something that other music can't? Are the people who listen to psytrance more special than the people who don't? Where is the original message that isn't drowned by commercial considerations? Where are the people that don't care about money? Where are the ideologists, the philosophers of the movement, the ones who write down the words that unite the people?

GIVE ME A BREAK.

I'll give you your break... personally i never said psy could change the world, i just said how it ties to me, and how its a part of my life, and how thankful i am to have it. I do believe its better then alot of the other music out there these days and i have flopped around from many many genre's of music so in my opinion it works for me. It's a door for me. So you can exclude me from your reply. Thanks.
