In all genres of music, there is always those who hold on to the older, or original, way of doing things. Them seem pitted against a second (or third or more) wave that wants to take the music in a new direction, in particular those who see psy as a happy, hippie thing and those who like a darker sound. I am oversimplifying here, but Im sure you can understand what I am saying.

As a firm believer in evolution, it seems to me a natural and necessary step for music to go through if the particular style wants to be around in the future. I too believe music changes to reflect the world around it. Take Russian psy for example, I see it as a reflection of the gritty, urban environment that makes up todays modern Russia. I don’t see a lot of fluffy psy coming out of that country.

So is this spiritual vs. fun, happy vs. dark, old vs. new….whatever you want to call it, the same debate that has happened countless times before to countless genres of music? Why not just listen to what you like and not hate on the other style?

=============================================

Some history on myself - I am really new to this style. I always thought trance meant Tiesto or van Burren….basically fluffy, dull, dry, commercial styles made to appease to the largest audience. Then a trip to Poland last year and randomly meeting a local girl changed my mind. We went to a club that played, what I was told, trance. It was nothing that I had heard before. Twisted, chaotic and anything but mainstream sounding. When I arrived home, I went in pursuit of some of THAT trance. I borrowed and listened to a lot of different artists, but 95% was the dull dry style I had always associated with trance.

I am by no means an expert of this genre, but I am musician, an avid listener and connoisseur of quality sounds. I do not know all the DJs, I do not really know the people and philosophy behind trance….but I know what I like. Baphomet Engine, Horror Place, Darkpsy, Electrypnose, Psykovsky (!!!), Derango, Megalopsy, Koxbox, Kemic-Al….just a few off the top of my head. Maybe they are not all dark or horror or whatever label you want to put on them, but then again, I never cared for labels. Just good music.

I am here to learn about the style, and welcome all suggestions for twisted, crazy psy in the vein of the artists mentioned above.

well good for you horrorplace!
I'd rather listen to tiesto to be honnest!
no matter how open minded i try to be, but i can not simply swallow the fact that this is a natural evolution of psychedelic trance.. if this is what it is then i'm outta here!
yes i do agree with you on the point of "if u don't like then don't listen" and this is what s ve been trying to do lately.. i stopped bitching about it, and just accept it. so when i go to a festival, i make sure to have a good night sleep at night to avoid such noises

Fair enough. Seems like the festivals you attend has something for everyone.

And I am not trying to attack anyone who enjoys Tiesto or other mainstream acts...just giving my opinion.

The music I recommend is not as fast as the ones you mentioned, some would call it not as twisted, but for me its far better sounding and much more psychedelic. Anyway it`s the music for the night time and you should chek it out, and please do tell what you think!

Eat Static, maybe some Joti Sidhu`s older stuf, also X-Dream, older Wizzy Noise, the Delta, Species, older Etnica (nitrox album for example) and a must hear recommendation Zenon records stuff (Sensient!!!), Hujaboy`s "Hujajoy" album, PPS Project and so on...

i own two of them.. Trishula Recs, 'Crazy goblins, wicked pixies' Savage Scream - Rotting side and Avatar Recs, 'Goa Gil - Karmagedon' Savage Scream - Black Dawn.
Good stuff... especially the former one, great bass change arounds, very twisted and psychedelic.

Speaking of which, does anyone know of any companies that have IN STOCK Tumult from Derango?

Na Zdrowie!
