wow, smashing party, very FULL POWAH!!!

today is tuesday and i think only now am i fully recovered...

crowd was relatively small, maybe 150-200, but i love the intimate family vibe that results... there was plenty of space to dance the whole night without it getting too hot or smoky...

musically, i liked most of what i heard... my man babla ganoush got things started right, beginning with some groovier chewns before cranking up the full-on-o-meter... the sudden "shift" ( ) in styles was a bit abrupt, but i enjoyed a lot of the tunes, especially that theorome track at the end...

i ended up missing most of nik's set, had to get some fresh air after djing, so i can't really comment on his material...

dejan i really enjoyed... very heady psychedelic music, perhaps not as dancefloor oriented as i generally prefer, but solid nonetheless... there was this one track he played early on with an accordion sample or something like that... anybody else know what i'm talking about?

and then isvara came on and made sure everyone's dancin shoes were still securely fastened... anyone who was too tired to dance at the point i'm sure was regretting it

it was great to see some philly headz in the house... jon, josh, mithun, adam, allyssa... and of course eitan and mimi were there in spirit

regarding our set... wow... it is so nice to get such uniformly positive feedback... all i can say is if you liked what you heard, we'll be back in NYC for the weekly on the 8th...

big BOOM to TDC from the philly crew... we're definately looking forwards to collaborating again in the future... oh, and pix are coming soon.............

FULL POWAH!!!!!!!!!!!

HEy guys . I had nothing against the drummer. i though it sounded great , its not like he played all night. and when he did i loved the natural sound. How can you say he shouldnt play again? He can do w/e he wants whats happening here ? I played the drum also. actualy i think it would be even better if dj's had percussion players with them that to me would be crazy it would add more life to psy trance.

i'm going to veer off topic here ( i wasn't even at the party - my loss, i've been buckling down with school and what not) but i HAVE to agree with karmakanik .. unfortunately, my memory fails me and i cant remember if the guy in the picture is the same, but there's one particularly annoying manic drum beater, who has turned up at a few tdc events and others .. anyone who was at asheville for gil will remember the guy who was upto all sorts of antics with the drum .. oof ! i think he finally fell in the stream, still beating the drum off course... sorry, im veering offtopic on an offtopic .. the point is, the drumming is great when you keep in beat, but this fellow goes off on some mighty tangents off his own .. - i think if someone walks in to a party with a drum, the organisers should ask them to play a few beats at the door to see if they can keep a beat

kidding ..

drumming is not bad in outdoors when the person is doing it to enjoy himself... and whover likes it can flock around him... but i really dont like the idea of drum when a dj is playing a kickass track... and i am sure there are a lot of people who think like me... in a club if someone plays any instrument it will be a disturbance to the people who dont enjoy it... and i think people should not disturbed especially in a trance party... and if someone tries to do such a thing it should be stopped... i remember a friend of mine asked him to stop a few times and he just kept going... it was so annoying for me and almost all my friends... i tried all through dejan's set to find a crner where those sounds will not reach me... but i miserably failed...

again i have nothing against drummers... but please dont disturb other's trip...

now if thats a part of the lineup it is a completely different story as the dj will be playing music accordingly... thats my opinion...           We meditate upon the Spiritual Effulgence of That Adorable Supreme Divine Reality, the Source of the Physical, the Astral, and the Heavenly Spheres of Existence. May That Supreme Divine Being enlighten our Intellect So we may realise the Supreme Truth.

.....can't resist adding:

@boomshanthi: you are far too kind (as usual!); you didn't hear this guy at TDC festival last year ... he made all of us rather insane....even outdoors...in fact outdoors was probably even more annoying, if that's possible...!

And as an instrumentalist, i must say that while i'm a big proponent of acoustic improvisation with electronica, esp in trance, it takes a lot of work and requires that djs and musicians be in harmony, spiritually and musically...

........Not to mention that the musician should have a bit of talent, and training. It's not as easy as it looks - and it's the musician's job to accompany the dj's set, not dominate and destroy.........

Too bad our friend the drummer is probably not reading this thread.... hahahahaaaaaa... but then, i guess i'm writing for us, not him.....i already tried reasoning with him last summer at the festival and it did not work

actually i have to disagree with you there Rachel. At the TDC festival i think that he was completely in syncronous motion with the dj set. I thought that his drumming added life to that dancefloor and complemented the percussion of the tracks upon which his music layered.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

Vitalik is a very good, professional even, musician, I really appreciated his drumming at both Goa Gil and Skazka(if you think he cant keep a beat I dont know what to say to you except that you are incredibly wrong, see Zev's post) If someone here has a problem with him or his drumming, you should probably take it up personally with him, he's a very good person, dont be afraid to approach him ;-)
I agree that its inappropriate for clubs tho.
We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home.

tsk tsk tsk people people people ..

i think you're reacting to the wrong things - im really not bothered about drumming outdoors, if i cant stand it that much, id happily go and climb a treee and enjoy things from there - teh asheville story was just a joke - though it did happen ..

im talking about the drum banging at clubs - if this is the same person we are talking about, im sorry, he has no sense of rhythm whatsoever .. if it isn't, then sorry to you ..

on the other hand, drum in jeffs hands at the yoga studios party with blue spectral and dr spook, sounded great .. no fooling around, just some thumping on a drum ..

if you take a general poll of new yorkers who've gone to indoors, id bet good money on the fact that there's no love lost for that misaligned drum beat we've heard at plenty of parties ..

and really, mr. vision .. - i dont think im completely wrong - im fully entitled to an opinion, especially when its shared by a fair number of people in the same situation ..

hehe karma, in all sorts of ways .. !

-end rant -

i'm sorry, but this should not even be a point of debate........

the bottom line is nobody at the party paid $25 to hear some drummer. people were there to see DEJAN and a cast of psytrance djs. you wouldn't go to a stand up comedy show and start shouting jokes at the performers, you wouldn't go to a concert and start playing guitar alongside the band...........

@liquid vision

my understanding was multiple people came up to him at various points in the night and requested him to curtail the drumming. these requests obviously went unheeded.

he was playing extremely loudly, and was not even close to being on beat. my one friend came in and told me he thought we were trainwrecking behind the decks left and right, until he figured out it was the drummer!
