Well i did search this forum for tabla but nothing came up , quiet surprisingly as i always beleived that the tabla was at the centre ( as an accompanying instrument ) of most fusion attempts with Indian Classical musica ..i bring you this topic and a few links pls add on ....
Check out Tabla Beat Science , its a group composed of Zakir Hussain, Bill Laswell, Karsh Kale, Talvin Singh and Trilok Gurtu. Its a beautiful fusion of classical hindustani, asian dub and ambient electronica.

Love the Tabla Beat Science project. Tala Matrix is an awesome album. Really want to see them perform live soemtime. Peace.

@ Damon: I'm sure baba! Haven't been fortunate enough to catch them live yet... saw Karsh Kale in action in San Fran this time around though... was quite an experience... Do they tour around frequently?

I don't think so. I catched them live only once within past few years. Same with Zakhir's "Masters of Percussion" tour
