Artist: Sub6
EP Name: Saved
Label: HOM-Mega
Released: February 2007
Cover: http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/hom/hom1cd907.html

Tracklist:

1. Saved
2. Stand with me
3. Ashkadakada
4. Human spin (with Intelabeam)
5. Control me (with Astrix)

My review:

I just had a listen to it at a friends place and I must say I don't like it at all. So I decided to put some effort into it to warn people about this. If you're into commercial psytrance with singing and which sounds a lot like Infected Mushroom sound nowaday you're welcome to try this drivel. Me, I'm going to steer well clear of this one. To sum it up:

Track 1: Electro influences, singing with manipulated samples. Whoooo really original!! Not. Anyway, sounds too commercial for my liking. The worse part is: if this was commercial it would suck as well because commercial artists are way beyond this. So it falls short in both scenes, psy and commercial.

Track 2: Utterly generic israeli type full-on which can be easily missed.

Track 3: Sounds kinda nice in the beginning, but fucks it all up royally near the end with some extremely high pitched hi-hats which make me cringe and hit next on the player so hard the plant which was on top of it fell off. My friend laughed tears about my reaction though, so no harm done there.

Track 4: A collaboration with Intelabeam so maybe this will be a good track. I thought that when I put it on, and it sounded quite ok in the beginning. Near the 3 minutes an irritating sample starts looping, ruining all the enjoyment. Near the end electronic bleeps come in and for the rest this sounds like generic israeli fluff. Some manipulated voice again too ofcourse. Yeahhhhh this is hands in the air material. Riiiight, with middlefingers extended to the DJ that decides to play this... conclusion: Not great at all.

Track 5: With Astrix. Well that gets hopes up doesn't it? The worse part is: It's the best track on here. It's not half bad, but Astrix' solo effort on the New Order compilation was better so maybe you'd better get that one instead.

Conclusion time then: For one ok track and the rest not great, this is a release that just doesn't cut it. Believe me, you can miss this. Your life won't change a bit. Mine didn't.

Despite being far from their best output, I actually think it's quite good. Certainly missing some of the crunch and punch Sub6 was known for in the past, but still with more edge and creativety than the vast majority of full on acts out there. Yes, with some very dominant vocals it's sure to have very commercial appeal, but I find them quite well-done - definitely MUCH better than MC Duvdev

IMO it's a weak release, worse than some previous Sub6 stuff and other Hom-Mega releases, not mention there's a lot of more psychedelic stuff released, so unless you really dig this style I recommend you to check other releases before buying this one.

Acidhive's review reflects my opinion.

So because the singing is better then IM this has to be good? I don't follow that kind of reasoning. Anyway, believe me, if you're into this more electronic sound there are far better artists out there. Check out some of this, especially the track 'Nio' and you'll see (hear) what I mean. Now that's the way electronics should sound. Great melodies and a great vibe and all without singing.

You can download Bad Loop's release there for free. Might be a nice alternative instead of actually shelling out cash on this release.

Don't get me wrong, to each his/her own, but it's just my opinion that there's better stuff out there than this. Far, far better.

I never wrote that this was good, because the singing was better than with Infected Mushroom. I think this is a good release on its own merit, but since you initially compared it with Infected Mushroom, I ended with a closing statement saying that the singing is better.

Actually I'm not a huge fan of vocals myself, and I agree that there is much better music out there, and I also already wrote that Sub6 made much better music than this.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

lyrics sucks but here we have not only usual fat commercial sound with vocals. colloboration tracks are sooo good even they are in that commercial way.           Spiritual guides are to practice and serve in ways that cultivate awareness, empathy, and wisdom.

I dont really like it at all, this album have boring moments and I expect more from sub-6 they dont make somethin´ diferent; its like a copy-paste from other dj´s and sub-6 have his own style... sorry           UGLY BEFORE!
