Strange noises after adding a sub

Hi there,

recently I added a Subwoofer to my setup. The sound is great(I can finally hear the very lows) but since I added it, I get strange noises in my monitors. Its like I can hear my PC working...as soon as I start something (Browser for example) I start to hear something from my monitors. A good example: When I have a browser open I can hear sounds when I scroll.

My setup:
Monitors: active HS80M
Sub: active HS10W
USB audio Interface (EMU 404)

Before I added the sub I only had that very low (kind of white) noise, which seems to be typical for active monitors. Its hardly audible and different to the sounds I hear with the sub. They are more like strange background sounds you get with bad radio signals.

I tried to relocate stuff, put sub+speakers on a different power socket or to sort out my messy cabling "system"...but nothing really helped.

Any idea on what I could do here?

Cheers,
Kryten

sounds like you could be getting interferance
from your monitors

try moving the sub away from them

That was my first thought also. My audio interface was located right beside my screens. I moved the stuff away from it, but nothing changed.
Then I noticed that it can't be the reason, because then I would have those noises without the sub as well I think.           My first track:

move away the sub from all the rest mate, not the screen or audio interface.
could be that the electronics of the sub or the huge magnet interferes with some other components..           http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/stereofeld-frequenzwechsel

@kippel: I did, but maybe not far enough...I will try to find another spot today.

@PoM: It was all on the same socket before and changing that did not help :/

I will also try to further separate all the cabling and stuff, maybe If I put all the audio stuff together and separate it from the rest (usb and other stuff) it will get better....           My first track:

yeah I use xlr.
I relocated my PC now to the other side of my desk, so the sub is to my left and PC to my right.
Only thing connecting those two is the usb cable to my audio interface.
Guess what - when I unplug that cable the noise now stops. I did that test before, when everything was standing together and it did not help. Strange, but now I have a clue at least from where its coming. Now I just have to find out how to stop that.....lol           My first track:

Are you able to test your setup with different computer or laptop?

Wel, it was the USB connection. I bought an isolator and put it in between my interface and the PC and now the noise is gone.
But now my fucking windows isnt playing any sounds at all...or any games or videos. But the interface works, in Ableton I do have sound.
It seems Ableton is the only programm able to play sounds now.
I got a warning when I installed the isolator though, that its not operating at full speed. i guess now I have to buy a power supply for it now to see if that helps...

thats maybe because in Live you use ASIO, while it is direct sound / wdm on Windows
try looking into that

Yeah that were my thoughts too before I fried that thing Put on a power supply with a little too high voltage....waiting for the new one now

I just wonder what I can do then, i found no place in windows where I could change something in that direction. When I tried to play test tones windows just said that the device is busy.
Every other thing I tested on the isolator via usb worked perfectly.(mouse, keyboard, gamepad, midi controller)

I have a "normal" soundcard inside my pc aswell, Im thinking of using that for every other thing except music stuff. But thats just a workaround and i have no clue how I could connect that to my speaker setup. (would mean going over the interface again and risking electric interference over another way then I guess)

I fear that this has to do with the shitty drivers of the EMU404...theyre old and only "testing" status for win7/vista as they never did any real drivers for that. Maybe its time to think about a new audio interface after nearly 8 years.           My first track:

Ok, got a new one now.

I noticed also, that my audio interface only gets usb1.1 speed when I connect it to the isolator. Otherwise it has 2.0. I see no reason for this.

but still, Ableton can play sounds...but not the rest. Probably because its using ASIO, but I cant figure out how I could tell windows to do the same....           My first track:
