Side note: Techno has tripped me out far better than any psytrance.

Holy Crap!
I have tried to read through this entire thread and I still don't really see any one DEFINING what Dark or any other Psytrance style is.
you can say something is "dark" sounding but that just an opinion. What we need is to look into the actual music to see what it is defined by.
Personally I ran this experiment with many trancers new as well as old. We listened to a few tracks and they would tell me what they thought each of them were. What I found that the thing that binds all Full on, Dark, minimal, Goa or whatever is the beat structure.
Now im no music theorist, or even claim to know about every track out there. But the facts remain that what most people consider dark has a particular driving beat (3 of them in sequence) in the background.
I would like to hear opinions please.

well today you can see really "dark" psytrance- somethings with horror samples and terror sounds.
and you can see fast music like gabber.
this is different than psychedelic trance.
and fullon is for kids - clearly not very deeply psychedelic unless you mean ajja and pharcyde and wild-things and bom shanka but thats not really "fullon" like we have on commercial parties now.
the commercial fullon is for people who are kind of stupid, that much is clear for me. sorry if that ofend you but its my opinion.

Yup My latest tune starts as a monotonous noise fest and ends up as melodic morning. Is it dark? Is it morning?!?! AAH!!! How can I unleash this onto the world without giving it a fucking label first!?!?!

and we need another category for artists and music that defy all the BULLSHIT boxes and just make good music that flows seamlessly between worlds and floats across genres like they are NOTHING!
Speaking of flowing "in between" worlds, check out this: "Tristate-In Between"
I think this track is a good example of what you call floating across genres. enjoy!
