Its like Heavy metal and its different forms like Death,Speed,Thrash,Goth,Doom,Black,Grindcore,
.. till it reached a point when the frontman of DEICIDE ( arguably the most heaviest and "evil" band on earth and the pioneers of "death metal" ), who was interviewd, said " What the F**k is this death metal? I just call it metal! "  www.braindrop.in |

Good point!
There's plenty of sides for Metal. And also Rock.
It's like those "how to behave on dinner tables rules".
Long ago, someone said that you should take you fork with the left hand, and cut the meat with the right one. So that means that is the CORRECT one?? NO!
Do (or call) whatever it suits you. Take for instance this Hi-Tech stuff, that people in Brazil are eating up to! Today, is cool to name something HI-TECH!

Its not fucking dark!! it nicely deep... I am very bored with this dark rubbish people refer it too... as personally i dont like evil shit.. but if you open the mind.. you realize its a deep shamanic state of being!

Its all about perception at the end of the day aint it? Someone who is listening to infect insect, baphomet engine , celsung , ocelot etc for the first time might find something dark innit ,you cannot stop them calling it dark can you ? whereas people who are already deep into the genre prefer to call it psychedelic or full on as it may seem to them.
Different people different realities.
In terms of generalising it, (giving it a name) lets just call it hardcore!

Can´t understand why this is such a big deal... if someone would like to call it "dark", then let them do that... who gives a f*ck? It´s a way to try and describe what kinda music genre it is.
Like "black comedy" for example... it´s a sub genre of comedy... It´s not just comedy!
Or a Psychological Thriller... it´s not just a Thriller....
But who is the one to deciede what the music should be called?? YOU are the one as an individual... coz´ it is you that are having the feelings and emotions listening to it. Therefor you are the judge what to call the music. Just coz´ some ppl has an opinion about what they think... that doesn´t mean we all shall follow him/her.
I´m so tired of this childish discussion and can´t understand why ppl are crying about this issue all the time... I have one opinion, you have another and so on... just look at all the opinions here....
Call the music whatever you like... the important is to listen to it... and if you call the music "dark" as you now did Ocelot... see how many ppl who knows what type of music you´re talking about.... so sorry mate... ppl will call the music whatever they want to... and there´s nothing the artists, or who it might be can do about it...

Each one sees 'dark' in his own eyes i guess, same as 'psychedelic'. If i may say something about all this DARK issue..when it seems to be so popular last years, what so called 'dark trance' its like a fashion or somthn
I think most of it is quite empty, without any 'contest' in it, not even talking about music. I mean, dark for me is sure not calling your track 'jihad of islam', start wearing black worship satan and make  on parties. There're some children that grow on this, start wearing black and scream.. with no texts, no meaing, no nothing. The only good thing in this imo - is that people are opened to other music, from trance to gothic/metal this case.. Man- It's beyond this!
If we'll go back for sec & compare 2 main flows of music and its ideology, you might find some connection to trance also:
Progressive (rock) which developed out of counterculture on the 60's, what called 'dor prahim', and Heavy metal (which is the source for dark trance I guess) that developed after that (pioneers like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath..)
The first represents subjects like heart-goodness of a man, connecting to nature, life meaning, freedom & mind-expanding and so. It's optimistic and more rationalistic, and likes the 'happy' scale. The other represents subjects like wars, death, destiny, devil& hell, addiction& control and so on. Its extreme, underground in its base, aggressive sometimes even violent, and likes the powerful 'sad' scale. Also in concerts there're few differences - the prog-crowd is more attentive, introverted, doesn't dance too much. In front of the metal-heads that more 'inflamed', more kicking, in trance.
At the end both are brothers to same family of cause, each powerful in its way. I guess you can find urself connecting to conceptions in both somehow- everyone and his personality & beliefs. For me trance is combination between them, apparently oposing to each other.
All dark freaks arround- don't scream just "killllllla…satannn…darkkk…wow I'd cut this cat eyes" donno what. It's boring and hurts the artists eventually. Keep on trance spirit, Focus on the music you like, enjoy it! Each one of us has darker days. Artists/Musicians – try it to feel dark, not ONLY cosmetics and all the extra-pose around.
I was always attracted to dark side of music, also trance, and what It became last years – its just stupid sometimes. Maybe I can't handle 145-150 bpm anymore, but i always search for the dark
