I love all styles of trance, and each for different reasons. Prog and pure psychedelic ('dark') are my all time favorites.
Prog for the heart, dark for the mind! 
Chill to float with, full on for everything in between.
It occured to me: How come we never see any 'dark' fans complaining about melodic stuff, or prog or whatnot? How come its always melodic fans complaining about 'dark'? And spitefully too, I might add. While us 'dark' fans are over here, having a great time, smiling, dancing (Fast!) and generally loving it! 
Maybe they're just jealous...
I wonder if blues artists felt the same way about rock n roll, when it first started to get popular. Oh wait, they did! But after a while, they realized that it was here to stay, and had better accept it. Complaining won't bring back the past. Then they started joining together to make blues-rock, and a whole new world opened up...

i'm not convinced at all man... for every 'dark horror trance is ruining the scene' moaner there's a 'pussy daytime shit is ruining my party' whinger.
ultimately i want to hear progression at a party. i want prog music, full-on music, hard and fast music, funky music... i just want the sense that the party is going somewhere and people are involved |

My ideal party:
starts 8pm, with some nice night-flavored prog, or some harder fullon.
HArd fullon (twilight/SA stuff) from around 10p to midnight.
Midnight to 4am some harder faster crazy "dark" stuff.
4am some crazier stuff like Derango or similar, til around first light.
Some nice Terminator type stuff, theres plenty of stuff that will fit, from first light to sunup.
Sunup-morning fullon, til around 10 am or noon or so.
Then, after noon, nice mellow progressive!
Then, if the party keeps going, move back to fullon, around late afternoon, coming back full circle.
at least, this is how my party in June is going to go!
So, style is not so important as flow, and being time-appropriate. I would never play Cafu at midnight outdoors, likewise I would never play CPC at noon outdoors.

About like, um, umpteen billion years ago the shpongle page used to be more like Simon Posford's personal page.
What was really funny was that there was a link called 'MIDI'. One would assume that it would have been MIDI transpositions of his songs.
Instead it just had the phrase 'NO WAY, NO HOW, and what would you want with a MIDI file full of suspended C-4 notes anyways' (or something to that effect).
I think you should have said:
'psytrance? You know, one-note SONGS with BILLIONS of sound effects. Oh dear.'

finalyyy!!!!!.......................everyone is realizing something that I've been thinking for some time........there aint no dark man.......we need to stop categorizing all the music coming out these days.....i dont know about the so called gothic or horror trance that people are talking about....coz where i come from, it has more to do with science, the ability of an artist / producer to take you on a logically bent journey...........and I think there is very little psychedelic music these days.......you have your releases that are reallty really potent psychedelic, i'm talking about stuff like psymatix, space rock, cryptic crunch, and sooo many more that I'm sorry I cant name everyone. i mean i can still trip outt to most of the floyd album but sometimes i listen to some of the "commercial" trance these days i feel like crying man! I'm no authority on psychedelic, but I'm a fan, i believe in it, and it will be a passion of mine for LIFE! and sometimes it frustrates me to see what is being released these days, and what is being called psy trance.....no dark no light, its all a mixture isnt it of a spectral range of emotions, activties, reactions, everything.....yin and yang, there is no light without the dark and vice versa ....... I dont mean to pass judgement on anyone, but we need to recognize that true psychedelic music, is getting covered up under a pile of rubbish.......... thats my 2 bits, or 4 bits for that matter......
i'm a computer engineer, so excuse me;->.......
and bOOOOOm to everyone all around the world.......and everyone on this forum....:->
one question i want to put forward is have we all really forgotten the true psychedelic journey??

btw, for example, para halu's new album space rock is so progressive, and yet its "dark" at the same time........... what i'm trying to say is genre's are coming together, amalgamations are taking and have always been taking place........ there are no set definitions for all of this, these were always genre's which involved pushing sonic boundries, creating manic soundscapes.......new sonic worlds........ and yet there are only a few who i believe are truly harnessing this music the way it should be harnessed........
