Why doesn't some 'morning' producer make a 152 BPM track and end this once and for all?

Because they have good taste in music...

Mason023 quoted it best so far. And yeah, Absolum's first album was pretty dark if you ask me. He new one was more towards full-on, yet it still is rather dark, so yeah, his stuff would be considered darkish, but not darkpsy.

Ocelot : you are fighting a lost case, full of contradictions. Your posts are insightful and are by far the best defence for the darkpsy i have read so far, yet they don't always make logical sence.

You can't say that if your music is not happy, that it is not dark.. When we are asked "how are you feeling today", do you often answer stuff like "I'm feeling a little industrial today, with a hint of squeek and a bit bassline" ??

No, you either answer "good" or "bad".. "Happy" or "sad" !! Enough with the grey area's already. you music all sounds the same so why not call it the same? Its not insulting to make darkpsy as long as its good music, right?

You will just have to accept that certain sounds reflect on certain moods.           www.jesterrecords.ca

I like Jimi Hendrix attitude about his music and what they were calling it. Check out this quote of his:

"Are these all psychedelic? I don't even know what that word means, really."
-Jimi Hendrix

And without reading the whole thread, I think it makes sense to call trance dark when its intended to be dark, you know like the kill-your-mother metal bands that have dark messages and "evil lyrics" along with covers of skulls bleeding with pain, tourture, etc

But just because it lacks melodies and sugar?

Key word is 'intention'. What did the artist intend? And can that be respected?

Just because someone is not happy, it does not make them sad. When I listen to ska punk and have a drink with a few friends I'm happy. When I hear coldplay, I'm sad. When I listen to (ready for my term? ) Deep, night-trance, it's not that I'm miserable but I'm in deep state of concerntration that is neither happy or sad. Kind of more meaningful than the both of them when it's really good.

And Ocelot's only fighting a lost course in the eyes of those who disagree (always gonna be some right?) so... there!

Don't get me wrong though, there is dark trance out there (usually way underground mind!) but to say that Ocelot's music is dark
is bad judgement. You should check out Catatonic despair and Neurotic Poison... Ouch!

well i don't know how morning it might be for some people, but electrypnose has a track @ 151 BPM's on v/a - vapour (with that same name) i would define as pretty morning-oriented, within his own style... more like 5 AM morning? if that fails there's always dejavu project with "who will kill fuckin bill" that's around the same speed and pretty morning/cheerful tune it is...           elementoftime.net

I don't know about ocelot's music, dark or light or whatever, but i don't think he is fighting against the fact that HIS music is defined as dark, but more at the fact that Darkpsy should not be called Dark !! it should just be called Dark..

Its as if he's saying chicken should not be called chicken, it should be called food.. and his argument is "well, i don't see a "C" in this food i am eating, so who is to say its "chicken" !!           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! As per my understanding all of the 'dark psy' haters donot like this style because of the high bpm's (above 150 is what I've read everywhere) and that there is no melody and to top it off that melodious leads did not sound good at a high bpm. Honestly, when we speak of morning trance, don't we mean the likes of Manmademan etc. where the whole track is based on melody. Lets try and take one of those tracks which is probably at 147 and shift it to say 152 BPM. Are those leads going to make sense is my question? There seems to be 2 arguments on this forum basically.. Dark psy has no melody because it has a higher bpm and morning trance loses its charm at anything above 150. Correct me if I'm wrong.
