Hello Shawnodese and others who went to Boom...
Stealing at festivals has become a big problem, and my tent has been robbed several times. What I have experienced is that it always happens after the festival is finished, during the after party etc.
The psytrance culture is full of messy drug addicts. I'm not talking about those who drop some acid now and then etc, but serious drug addicts who are on the heroin etc. You see more and more needles at festivals you know... In Goa, heroin is very common among psytrance people who has been in it for a while... The sesult of this drug is totally desperate people with no respect for other people at all. With other words, no PLUR...
I left the Boom festival on monday, because there is always a bad vibe at a festival when it is finished. I also thought it was getting really dirty everywhere at that time. No clean toilets etc... There was a lot of stealing at Samothraki all three years (after the festivals), so I have learned to leave as soon as the festival is officially over.
Bring as little as possible and leave early, that's my two cents...

Hi PKS,
I don't think the occasional junky stealing from your tent is really what Shawnodese ment, when he was writing about "organized crime".
There are groups of people coming to the festivals only to steal from others, they are not actually interested in trance music, they just use the opportunity to steal from lot's of people. They go through the camping area at a certain time, which is from my experience during the festival, when everybody is partying, going through the tents and cars and leaveing before you've noticed.
Organized doesn't mean somebody desperate, organized means having things planned beforehand and acting in order to that plan.
It is true, that there are poeple hanging out in Goa using heroin (and on the parties too), but the way you describe it it sounds as if they are using herion, because they are into trance music for a long time. Usually it is rather the other way around. They are into heroin for along time and also like to go to parties. And I don't think that any of these people is running around stealing.
You are speaking like somebody in an anti drug campaingn, having a very narrow and opinionated mind.

I think the only thing you can really do is not to bring any valuables with you... and the ones you HAVE to bring, have them on you in a backpack when you leave the tent.
Actually, this might not even be enough - You might want to put the expensive stuff in the bottom area of the backpack, so its not easily accessible.
This is what I do anyway.
If everybody do this, maybe it will become less lucrative to steal and rob... However, being quite pessimistic about these things myself - I wouldnt bet on it.
Ive had gear stolen from parties I arranged also, you have to watch EVERYTHING all the time - or people fuck you over. Sadly.

We shouldenīt have to hide our stuff away from thieves!
We should be able to live in a world without fear of being robbed, attacked or mistreated, but we donīt so we have to keep our eyes open!
funny that we can stick a man on the moon and canīt stop the original sins huh?
My advice is to take only the essencials, try and keep them on you or leave them with trusted people or in a safe locker. Boom had lockers.
I know itīs revolting that we have to hide our things and itīs wrong that our belongings which we value are taken from us by disrespectful people but if we know that we live in a world where people violate everything then we should make the necessary adjustments and expect some unpleasent surprises.
Just donīt go do the same to your neighbour.

If you think so, you are totally naive! I agree that organised stealing has become a problem, but there are psyjunkies doing shit like this too.
It's sad to hear that you accuse me of talking for an anti drug campaign just because I tell you about the heroin junkies stealing. Do you really want heroin junkies at parties? I do not. Open your eyes and stop being so naive!

I know that there are junkies stealing, but I really don't think, that they are cause of the problem being discussed here.
Blaming junkies for problems of the society is a very common and easy thing to do. imo the society should be blamed that there are junkies.
I happen to know some heroin users and they also go to parties sometimes. They have been using the substance before they discovered trance parties. They go to parties, because they like the friendly vibe there. Not to steal. Junkies are usually very sensitive people looking for love.
I don't personally like this drug, nor do I think, that it is healthy or good for you, or that it has something to do on a trance festival, but to name junkies as a reason for the enormous amount of stealing happening on festivals is imo completly out.

People steal at parties. The days where you could leave all of your belongings thrown on some towel you left on the other side of the dancefloor for three hours and come back to see that nothing was touched are long, long gone. That's the way it is.

sad story here in germany they even break up cars to steal the holiest stuff a dj can have -his music ( like d-nox a few years ago).happened a few times and often these are people who are involved in the scene and have background info.

Wake up man!
Big festivals attracts big organised gangs of crooks, not only in the psy scene.
What to do....make small parties instead, and if you go to big festivals don't bring more valubles than you can keep on you. |

these stealings are obviously attracted mostly to big festivals,as they know its easier to deal with a bunch of psy-heads lost among themselves.
the idea of keeping all the valuables in a hotel locker is preety safe,but then some like to carry it along with themselves in that case someone amongs the friends has to take responsiblity of things for that matter,maybe everyone for few hours,that it the safest n one of the most reliable things to do as everyone share a common group.

sad story buddy...
i think that u need to take watch when u think u gonna to sleep if u r verry tired so let your friend to take a look on your stuff sleep a littel and then let him to sleep and try to stay always in a big group and if u goona to sleep and ther is no1 with u so take a bag with all your importent stuff and sleep on them or tied to your body...
this is a disgusting thing and realy i'm dont like to fight with ppl but if some1 like this is fall in my hands
he found himself with all is body in earth and only his head is above that i can to urinate on his face!

Sadly enough, EVERYTHING of value was stolen from me at BOOM at Sat. night!!! Passport, wallet with cards and cash, carkey, phone, camera - all was in my backpack right next to my head in the doorway of my tent while I was having a 2 hours rest!!!
Thanx to everybody who helped me out with money and food! Luckfully everything went well - I even got a new passport the next day in Lisbon and could fly back home.
Next time I'll be more careful and maybe I'll set up a trap - just to look in the persons face... |

I had a friend of mine have her bag stolen from the dancefloor at Boom when she was not with it for about 5 minutes. She is diabetic and they still took her insulin and testing kit. Wankers! I agree with the fact that you will get local crowds of people who will buy a weekend ticket and do not appreciate what is going on, but rape the scene and steal as much as they can.
My theory is, camp with as many people as you can with a large communal area in the middle of your tents. That way you will get to know people around you and there will always be someone generally at camp. I left my wallet, mobile phone and passport in my tent at Boom and felt very safe the whole time. Also, further away from the trancefloor is best. People will not walk a long way to get to the tents which are furthest - these types are opportunists who will go to the closest tents to make an easy escape! |
