why can't they just throw legal events in clubs or something?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

because none of the clubs are interested in psytrance. the whole club scene in amsterdam is geared towards the weekend tourist, who wants to listen to commercial music and drink themselves stupid. clubowners are not prepared to deal with a scene where their bar takings suffer.
There are only 2 legal venues in amsterdam that will deal with psytrance, and they are both very expensive to use and not very nice in the first place. On top of this there is no space in Holland for outdoor parties, due to the fact it is the most densely populated country in europe.           I said no to drugs... but they didn't listen

traveller: read the letter, it's got a few pointers.

lurk is 123% on the spot - and this is not new ..
this is also why a club like the mazzo, that hosted the gathering nights some ten years ago
got rid of the psychedelic promotors in there:

occassionally maybe a few more ..
but it aint easy, believe me!

club/nightlife in amsterdam is quite bourgoise/poshy nowadays.
prices for entrance and drinx are high, like
u'd pay just as much in euros
as u would have payed in guilders at the start of this millennium!

Have you been to amsterdam? i lived there for nearly 5 years, and satyr has lived there a lot longer than that. clubs in amsterdam are commercial full stop. there used to be more clubs that accepted us, but one by one they either decided it was bad for their bank balance or they closed down. now there are only 2 clubs (and by clubs i mean licensed venues which hold over 100 people).           I said no to drugs... but they didn't listen

it is really sadning that stuff like this is happening!more precautions need to be taken to ensure that we party in safe locations. things like this are a low point in our scene, and instead of bitching about what could have been done we should open our eyes and ensure that it does not happen in the future. my condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.

because clubs are expensive, have shit bouncers and close early and cater for different musical genres in my opinion. the essense of psy trance does not flow well in clubs...

i dont know where you live man, and i dont know what its like in holland but here in switzerland (french part) there is no way the govt will ever support our scene! and we will never comply to their demands in order to receive this help... it would kill everything s that s beautiful in it...

i m very sorry to hear about what happened in amsterdam... sorry about the loss of life and the destroyed home... further more it just gives new reasons for the govt to go against the scene....

I understand your point man but just imagine you are an organiser and that you haven't thought of this and it happens to you well i think i still feel a little pity for the organiser i am sure he did not mean anything wrong! He just wanted people to have a good time!

@ Psypher

Man in the old days psy parties were much much wilder and as we all know lot of them were made in Goa (India)...Do you think that they have safety procedures there? Man when you go illegal you go illegal you are responsible for your actions not other people such as the organiser! You can take care of yourself? If you think well then do not go illegal and go to safe places were you think nothing can happen but guess what man life leads us to many different ways and you can never tell your destiny! Who are we to blame somebody else! Who are we to point our finger and judge! Sorry man but it's not nice to blame people it's not my soul...

Some finn might step in and prove me wrong but I understand that here the goverment hands out money to all kinds of art/culture events that ask for it and have a good reason to get it..

A sidenote, nothing wrong with clubs IMO. A few nice decos make miracles and clubs tend to have fairly good soundsystems to begin with and no annoying noise limits and so..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Daryl was not THE organiser - mostly the main occupant of the squat
and the only one to have the balls to stand forward
as the Responsible Squatter to take the blame
and is now still the main "suspect" of the police ..

a plan is being made how to get him out of this mess ..

about the fire:
firebrigade is still looking for the prime cause of the fire
and still think it was lit,
also it seems the firehoses on location have been cut thru at their root
(which is not at the open end but 'hidden' at the base) ..

many bad things happen at legal parties
but now everybody is talking about how to manage
this "illegal problem" ...

it's still a mess out here ...
yesterday night was a wake for Moon,
who died last Sunday
and now some the press writes about riot and uproar
during this wake service ..

riots .. it's unbelievable, especially when
during such a night the police come with dogs
and start asking nasty questions during times of mourning
and working on people's nerves in various ways ..

so when u say something back, that's a riot?

& btw: legal places burn down just as easy,
that's what the last couple of years in NL
have shown us ..
