Son Kite released their debut album in December 1999 and went on to pioneer a trance sound that inspired among others Chab & Dj Nukem, today of global fame on the progressive scene and beyond. Today, after 2 albums, 20 singles and 50 or so compilations, Son Kite has appeared on more than 200 000 sold records and are an institution in themselves. They have received support from all the major names on the dj circuit as their music finely hovers between commercial and underground – always ahead and the next thing to be picked up. Being very busy producers, they also have side projects like Minilogue and Ooze that in short time have gained an equal amount of respect across the world. With a global following of fans Son Kite have toured the world over and over, playing live some 200 times since the end of 1999, in everything from a private birthday party in Manhattan to a festival in Acapulco with more than 30 000 people attending. All these facts lead to one simple conclusion - this is a milestone and a seminal trance release ...

Some comments about the new Colours album:

TRISTAN

Son kite's latest release, in my opinion, is a quality piece of work. Chunky grooves, absorbing atmospheres and top production drive the deliciously hypnotic tunes, which should work on both progressive and psychedelic dancefloors alike.
The sound is sophisticated and delicate but the overall effect is heavyweight stuff, taking it’s time (as good trance should) but delivering at the right point. this is the best album in it's genre since Atmos "headcleaner", a well needed conceptual album in a sea of bandwagon trance; which will definitely play an important role in my dj sets around the globe.

Favourite tracks: 2, 3, 4, 6

CHAB

It's my favourite music when I dance. Adrenaline Guaranteed

Review of Son Kite - Colours by Lemon 8!

I've been a big fan of these guys for a number of years now. Not only are they excellent producers, they also know how to move a dancefloor. A lot of their tracks have been life savers for me on a number of occasions throughout the past 3 years on the road as a dj. Little do they know that they have managed to inspire me every time they put out a record.

Needless to say that I was very anxious to hear a full album by Sebastian & Marcus and I just did. So what's the album like? Nothing but amazing really. It grabbed me immediately and if I didn't know any better my house turned into a club the minute I slid the CD in the tray.

It's presented more as a full-on rave than a regular album. That's good, as most dance artist's albums tend to bore pretty quickly by too much pretences. The album has got a really nice flow and it sucks you right in. And though it's still 130+ bpm it feels like you're listening to Jean Michel Jarre at times. I guess it's an atmospherical thing. Somehow they've managed to pour a lot of heart into this project and you can also hear their musical diet and preferences throughout the music. But the beat first and foremost as the most important ingredient.

As such, every track is a highlight in itself. The whole album is like a track but then in the good sense of the word. Technically (I am a producer, you know...) the whole production is spot on, well balanced and it's a perfect showcase for their production skills. The best thing about this album though, is that it doesn't suffer from false pretences. I mean, it's great not to hear a downtempo song with piano's or an Orb clone, like so many dance producers include in their albums. This is about dance. Dance at it's best. If your dance heart is in the right place you should definitely buy this. It's full of energy and a party in itself. Great stuff.

Some more comments about the Colours album:

JOHN 00 FLEMMING (Joof Recordings):
I LOVE this album!!! This is the most forward thinking piece of electronic music that I have heard for a long time.

ANTI (Spiral trax):
Definitely one of the biggest albums of the year.

DIMITRI (Spun Records):
Embracing the old and new, contemporary, classic and progressive side's of trance Son Kite spice up the colours of the modern dancefloor making this album successfully reach into an emotive and rhythmic, yet accessible realm of trance music, while also managing to break the rules - Pure funky ass trance!

ATMOS
A must in all record collections!

IAN ION (Kox Box/Saiko Pod)
“Colours” should firmly establish Sweden as the home of “psygressive trance”!

TOBI WIRZ (GREED)
It’s really cool to see that there are people who are able to take trance music one step ahead. Son kite's music is always incredibly fresh, forward thinking and I just love those small details and gimmicks you only discover after some time.

Son Kite – Colours
By Kai – Mushroom (Hamburg) – Translated by Alex Ka (Aje)

The concept of Sebastian Mullaert’s and Marcus Henriksson’s third album Colours encompasses two singles, one album, and one DVD. That hasn’t been done before in the Psytrance scene, and as part of a scene with an underground feeling one tries to find "the commercialism" (not the exact translation, but that’s what Kai means). But this isn’t the case, the concept is "right on".
While "Minilogue" and "perspectives of..." were marked by the search for their style and by forced minimalism, "colours" combines all the new sides that the Swedish duo has discovered since "ReeWo" and the Cosma remix and combines them with an incredible feeling for the right groove, it connects the history of son kite with the history of trance, house and techno and looks like mature work back in time as well as into the future. Its an album like no other, it builds from minimal tracks with well thought out architecture up tp energetic powertrance, just to leave behind musical beauties, even blues elements, Harthouse, Swiss progressive and quotes from Der Dritte Raum to end with the beginning modulations. Every track holds its own in a set, every groove is refreshing, all nine (!!) tracks are superb, and still the whole story is the secret of "Colours". What a Trip!!!! With this kind of music no one has to worry about the future of electronic music. Trust in Trance!!!

Son Kite – Colours
By Kai – Mushroom (Hamburg)

Trust In Trance. (kai)
