Hmmm a nice list indeed. Though in my opinion some artists are missing:

Is it funk? is it soul? Funk can be soulful and vice versa...though i would agree with the james brown thang, what else than funky can you label it. And hes one bad ass soul bro. Schiet mij maar lek!
i say Hanckock/Headhunters and Henderson top the funky list! Those phat bass licks on headhunters and thrust, and the deep funk on Hendersons Realization or Heritage...hmmm, funkin' lovely
