hi mates! so i like a bunch of umm. music. and im not very good at the correct name of genres, so i was wondering: what genre should i look for when these are my albums of choice?

shpongle - mainly the first two albums
bluetech - all releases
androcell - effloresence, partly emotivision
spatialize - dryads bubble is spot on
entheogenic - mainly the first albums.
abakus - that much closer to the sun is good

im obviously into medium action psychedelic music or something, i dont like it more stressy than say.. shpongles "nothing lasts" album, and aes dana is on the edge of how minimalistic i can go, i like it but if it had less action id get too slow for me.

so what is the type of music i like really called? thanks

NOOOO! That is a wannabe stupid-as-IDM-soundalike idea.

I would call it simply Psychedelic Chillout, some people call it Psychill.           http://enjoys.it

i would not say abakus has anything to do with psy at all.. (which is what makes him so great).

personally, i refer to music of this kind as electronic music.. that will have to do.

I clump all my downtempo music into two categories
Chill & Ambient
Chill is what you've listed, nice relaxed beats but able to be quite enjoyed on a night out. Ambient I think of as music that is too relaxed for a night out, purely horizontal music only.
I don't like genres           Wait.....What?

okay here goes.. this is how i would categorize it

shpongle - Psy chill/Down tempo
bluetech - Down tempo
androcell - Psy Dub
entheogenic - Psy chill/Down tempo
abakus - dub

but then again, like some said here, it's all chill out after all.          Nothing is said that has not been said before.

I wouldn't call abakus a DUB artista (such as lee perry or linval thompsom)... he has some tracks that maybe you could call it psychedelic dub, but there are many others from other genres, imo.... anyway i always call them all of chillout musike.           we are one.

wow thanks for the replies lads! so generally it is psy chill or psy downbeat/tempo? i know of dub, and while Ott for example makes good Dub, im generally not looking for it, even if i like a dub track here and there.

the spatialize album Dryad's bubble is actually the most right on album of them, it has what im after in any other artist. easily embarrassed is also amazing.

the reason i was asking was more so that i know what to look for you know, searching the internet and such. its so hard cus english is not my native language and i read shpongle is psytrance, and then i check another psytrance group and its 200bpm trance with psychedelic melodies, not chilly at all

anyway, thanks for the replies, appriceate it.

Good to hear that Spatialize is winning people over - he played some of his first ever gigs at a party I used to help put on - Destination Venus - in 1999/2000 sort of time

More info on Neil at

As for looking for stuff - I suppose thats the main reason we have genres - so you dont have to keep humming stuff in the shop!

Though you could get into lots of debate over exactly what is what - most of the artists you listed will probably be filed under chill or psy chill in most on line stores... though you'll have to do a lot of searching!

Good luck with the search though...

never say dub without a good reason
