There are a lot of artists out there that fall under the umbrella term "chill". I'll be the first to agree that there is often a fine line between music that sounds fresh and music that sounds flat and cliche. This is true of most styles of music. So with all the parody running amok at the moment, let's discuss either the ideas, the labels, or the artists themselves. What do you think makes the difference? What artists do you love/dislike and why? What labels do you feel are on the right path/wrong path and why?

Well I see that some people get really upset if someone expresses dislike about artists of their personal preference. Each time it seems to break down into insults and arguments. It'd be nice to see open discussion. I'm probably wrong though.

The cutting edge in music lately is all about silence. The latest innovation in sound is not making ANY sound at all. It's all about how inaudible you can make your art.

I've got some great new "mute" material I'm just not sure how to present it. Everyone is still in the stoneage using those pesky loudspeakers. It's so annoying.

The sound of silence Vol1 - Vol 3

Great work, specially the intro, and everything sits perfect in the mix

John Cage, you mean the guy that wrote the song "Dead Ant", I mean, the Pink Panther theme? He was hardly quiet enough.

If there is a "mix" then it hardly seems like they worked hard enough to be silent.

Mauxuam's new album is going to be loaded with sound and a traditional "full frequency" mix, so it's hardly the fresh, new step that any of you are looking for.

I can't be bothered with all the panning sounds swirling about, and feeling those undesirable bass vibrations. The new "mute" direction will really help people chill to the maximum extent of the word.

I understand, but is there only one kind of silence?

They did some great work on panning some silence to the left and yet leave enough silence for the right side.

What complete amatuers. I can sweep a panpot and you won't even know that it happened. It's easy to say my skills are progressing nicely becuase I'm one of the few who actually see where music is headed.

Ok, I'm off to progress the art of shushing the sound. Been a little stumped lately because the ringing in my ears keeps drowning out best parts of the track I'm working on . Off to figure it out.
