Hey ppl...
first than nothing... i have no words to explain how dissapointed i've felt when i've read that review...after all the work and time that i spend to make this album...i respect the oppinion of each one about my music... im not the best artist, my music maybe is not perfect... i've worked very hard the last 6 years to give smuhg a life... an own style and make it unique, some ppl likes this "label" that i let on each one of my productions, and some ppl don't...
i must say that this has a very strong hit to me when i saw that review... i dont know who wrote it... i didnt even knew that site... and i have just something to say to this guy... there are much different ways to express what we feel about somethings, and we can think a little bit more about before saying things that can be very bad for the career and life of somebody...maybe you didnt knew about smuhg before...what i've done in my 6 years producing, and maybe you dont know how hard is for a musician to can live of this, and how hard is to find the inspiration, how much love and energy spends on his work...to after a year of breakin' his head infront of the machines at the studio... find this kind of "review" about the album that more than that is purely a bad intentioned text.
so if you are conscientious about that a lot of people will read it... why use this way to make ppl forget about the idea to listen it and make their own opinion... affecting the artist, and the label...when its just your own oppinion.
is very hard to me explain what i feel about this...
i just can say that is totally disgusting and pitiful.

My best wishes           www.smuhg.com

Smuhg... we've all had bad reviews mate, you get over it. It's not that important. Bad reviews are just as important as good ones in my view as they provide a balance to each other and stop the artist's ego from getting too big. Besides, in my opinion a review should only give the reviewer's view of the music he's reviewing, and shouldn't have to take into account how long the producer has been making music or how long the track/album took to write. If that was the basis for judging music, then IM's latest album would have got much better reviews here than it did! If a reviewer likes what he hears, he'll tell people; if he doesn't like it, he'll tell people. I know the guy who wrote that review, and I can promise you it wasn't aimed at you as a person, as you suggest by saying it was "bad intentioned"; he just really didn't like your music. Yeah, that sucks, but that's life dude, and like I said many of us here have been through it and come out the other side.

If you don't want to read what people think of what you do, you're better off not reading reviews at all. You've got to be able to take the rough with the smooth, and not get upset when one guy with a loud voice says he doesn't enjoy your music.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I'm sure your next album will great, because you have the skills. I think you should go into isolation next time you wan't to produce a song or an album, a artist once told me that he NEVER listened to any music, while producing an album.

Colin... as i said... i respect each one oppinion about my work... the point here is... there are ways to say something... i found that "review" so agressive... thats what i called it "bad intentioned"...
the opinion of each one is ok, is even good if they don't like the music bcs helps to know where can get better... BUT... this one is to agressive to be published on a massive site...
anyways SHIT HAPPENS... and as i've seen this review, i've seen very good reactions too.
there's the balance.
Take care           www.smuhg.com

Well... All guys here got a point... I think its not so difficult to understand. A review is the way the reviewer is thinking... NOT a general opinion, in fact its completely a matter of taste as we´ve seen here in past messages. My personal opinion about this review, is that its really really really honest. This reviewer seems to say what he really think, just the way it is for him. For me, in the other hand, this album is good, i like Smuhg´s style, but its a lot of different styles and different stories for an album. To be honest, 100% honest, i really like Smuhg´s tracks, like "Killer Elephants", or "thank you", and the other tracks too... They have a bunch of new ideas, but perhaps its too much BPM/Style variation for my taste. I know Smuhg´s music for a long time, and i can say his sound is always moving, always changing and evolving, this Balam album for my taste, was a little bit... hmmm maybe bad compiling of the tracks perhaps? Maybe a straight line in the story of the complete album (and the tracks) would be better, and for sure, present ONE Smuhg identity, not a lot of tracks with different goals and stories. As i can tell, this album has something in common, all the sound is original from Smuhg, not only a bunch of already-used, already-made presets and templates... All this album is a great great effort and job from SCRATCH. So for me that means a lot of respect to Smuhg, for the hard work and time spent in this album. Smuhg, please remember what reality is... Its a review, you´re the artist, music is a way of expression and not always all the crowd get the message, or they dont really like the message, thats all. Music is something that you make to feel good, to express yourself, and YOU (in the top of everyone) know how much effort, originality, time, and experience it took for you to finish your album, so please, respect your own oppinion, and hear others with wisedom, dont take them as a "rule of a thumb". Keep it up!!! I liked your Artwork by the way Always thinking bright! Take care my friend, and please, relax, work more, and time will take you to different places and circumstances

Boom!!!

Hello Smuhg!
I haven't heard your album, so I can not give my opinion, but listen to what Colin OOOD says... It's just a review, and artists have always had to accept bad and good reviews... I have written many bad reviews in my life myself, but it is never meant personally... Remember that! The reviwer just writes what he thinks about the music...

But, another thing that makes me wonder, is that you have called yourself Divinorum (in your chill project), when we allready have a goa trance artist called Divinorum:

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Divinorum

Can you explain the reason for that? Is it that hard to find an exclusive name?
By the way, good luck with future projects... Use the feedback you have got in a positive way...           CHILL TRIBE

Well, trying to be as honest as I can, keeping in mind that Smuhg has been a great friend of mine for years, I believe everybody has their opinions and tastes which I respect. And like Jinno said, others opinion, be good or bad it's very useful to make us work harder and become better artists.

However I disagree with Damion in one thing, I don't think that smuhg's tracks are without soul, you can say you don't like the quality of the tracks, that you don't like the vocals of the tracks, or that the structure of them is not what you would expect, you can even say that for the speed and the style, his music is hard to mix in a dj set.

but if there's something I admire and respect Raul for, is for the ability he has to pour his soul on the music he does, most of his tracks speak of great tales.

so my advice is this, I respect everybody's opinion here whether is good or bad, but I'd like to say something specially for those who have the album. try closing your eyes and open your heart while you listen to it, trust me you won't be disappointed.

Raul you are a great artists and a great person man, use this feedback to motivate you make better things, remember life's hard and full of trials, but that's how it is.

Peace, Love, Light and Harmony.

hey.

as in all albums it has it's advantages and disadvanges.
Smuhg definetly has what it takes to create a great release.
overall - this specific album has many great ideas, but it's very unfresh, and we keep getting the same formula, as i said before Smuhg has the skills for it but hey, power is nothing with control.

maybe you should have a look at the reasons why you write music? If you write it to make money (you mention your "career" & say "how hard is for a musician to can live of this"), perhaps you should consider another line of work? I know that's a harsh thing to say.. I haven't heard the album & I don't really need to - the way you react to criticism of your music is enough

If you write music because you love it, it shouldn't matter what people think about it. You talk about "how hard is to find the inspiration"... maybe if you take a break you'll find whatever it was that made you start writing in the first place?

I've met Damion & he's a nice guy. If he didn't like your CD then he's got a right to say so. I used to write reviews reasonably frequently. I got sent a batch by a label that I thought sucked. I said so in my reviews. It's not my fault that the label sent me this stuff to review. If they'd read the reviews that I'd previously written they should've known that I wouldn't have been into that style of music. I hardly think it's right to blame Damion for his taste in music. To me that's "pitiful"

I assume your label sent Damion this CD for review. Perhaps you should think about that?          new Hadal Drop album on the way

lols a plenty at this thread. Man if you're going to be an artist, you've gotta be able to accept criticism. You can't be having a cry everytime someone doesn't like your stuff.

The fact that your label started this thread with that review is a very large worry. I can't understand the logic behind that move at all.           Just remember.... in Hell.... there will be doof....

its a great review for a weak release.

what makes less sense is why the label would be the one to post a review stating that thier recent release is wankin'

- Agreed, it's very funny indeed. But thats ok.
I wrote a not so positive review of "Psyfactor" and their label gladly posted it on their main page.

- I got this Smugh album, guess who I got it from (Actually, now that I read this review from who wrote it, I'm honerd to own THIS album. =)

Which track is that?

Anyway, I havent heard through this album yet, i've had it for a while, but there hasnt been a attraction to take it and play it yet. Maybe I'll give my comments later when I find the time. It cant be that bad. I mean, 0/10 is pretty harsh
