maybe labels should start bribing damion into giving their releases marks like 9&10 that way they can increase the sales lol

haven't heard the album but fair enough if AP Records wants more opinions on just why this album is shit/good, it's just a shame that as part of the label you can't hear for yourself??

Exactly.

I liked it, the other guy didn't - it's just a matter of taste. I don't pay much attention to reviews. While it is interesting to hear the opinions of others, i am never swayed by them. The only 'review' that really matters is if you can get a chance to listen to it and decide for yourself. I honestly can't see the point of analysing the shit out of music - you either like it or you don't.

Personally, i thought this was a pretty good album with a few great tracks (El Guardian Del Sol for instance). If i was gonna be critical i would say that the vocals on some of the tracks are totally unnecessary and can get annoying (in the same way that the vocals on a lot of IM's recent stuff tend to fuck up the tracks) but apart from that, i liked it.

So...

If you want a straight opinion - i liked it.

If you want a critical opinion - i would drop the crappy vocals in future.

If you want more publicity - keep bumping this post!

so far i think AP have released some cracking music from the shore of Mexico .. the Psycomex series have been amazing, with tracks of both part 3 and part 3 still getting into my sets!!
this album didnt really keep up to scratch, not that i disliked it, it was just not up to expectation...

the first thing that caught my attention that made me judge the book by it's cover was the artwork .. ok so im only seeing it from one perspective butthere was nothing about it that said 'pick me up' or 'im worth it!' ... however the glorious artwork of the Psycomex compilations and EPs said 'stick me on the wall' .. 'frame me .. buy the poster' ... 'buy two copies!!' ...

the Lamat album was also great ... but the Smuhg album wasnt as exciting as the individual tracks previously released would have suggested ..

hmm .. zero for a review .. well guess it a matter of taste!

however .. i remember Sasha and Digweed's life-changing album 'Northern Exposure 1' getting zero in a massive publication printed with ink and paper .. if u know wot i mean

in a nut shell ... not too bad, just not that good.. and the artwork did nothing to keep it up to the usual standard from AP ...

Dawn & Ross… thank you so much for taking the time.

I can not express enough the valuable of your words for us as a label.

There is no better way for us to obtain the knowledge other then to get it directly from you people. So please do not hesitate.

Looking forward for more “on topic” - album review - discussion here.

Thanx

I'll just jump into discussion here, if I may.

I think there are two sides to the situation here. I have only heard a couple of tracks from this album so I won't jump into conclusions and save any opinions about it to when I hear the rest of the tracks.

Still, while I feel like Damion's review is probably accurate (what I've heard, I didn't like that much), I also feel like a lot of people are just going after his opinion. Don't get me wrong, if there's anyone with enough credibility to write about a psytrance album, that's Damion - I've been reading his reviews for as long as I remember listening to psytrance. Nonetheless, we have to accept that his personal opinion also has something to say in his reviews, and where he sees a pile of crap other people may see quality music, or the other way around - it has happened to me in the past.

I'd bet a lot of people here who have immediately agreed with Damion have heard, if anything, the samples at Saiko Sounds. You cannot judge an album if you just listen to a couple of minutes in low quality off of it. I'm not saying the album is actually a masterpiece, I haven't heard it myself either, but I don't just go judging it - and I won't until I listen to it.

I´ve listened to the whole album even since some time before it came out. I know Raul (Smuhg) since some years now and i have a lot of respect for his music. I´ve seen the development of his sound, and for me he is definitely one of the best mexican talents.

For me its hard to make a neutral review because he is also my friend and he is part of my label / crew (Sounds of Earth). And to be honest, was very hard for me to read that review, it sounded to agressive and even offensive for me, but this might be also becuase of my background with my friend.

In my opinion, its a different album, from the cover, from the music, from the order of the tracks, etc. I think it has its own concept and i think it sounds like Smuhg itself, not another "sound-like-something-else" album. For me, that already makes it good.

As a Dj, i must say some of the tracks are hard to play or difficult to fit on (my) sets. For example, i would never play a track at 150 bpms, never. But i find nice histories on his tracks, they all tell me something. Thats why when you see Smuhg playing a live set you will always find a positive reaction in the dancefloor.

Anyway, its only a review, a point of view, a personal perspective. Some people will like some albums, some people with hate them, some people will not even care. The good thing is that there is always good music for everybody, have a good one... cheers!

Well i like this album. Its not album of the year, but i really enjoy it.
I havent heard such hard monring music in quite a while ... cranking high bpm i mean... not hard sound

The cover, people say its not such good art ... did you notice that it is dedicated to the preservation of the Cat that is pictured on the cover? (an endangered animal) I think we can offer some conccession to the artwork becuase it was used in this environmentally sensitive way rather than just trippy colourful usual art.

Ive found psyreviews to be increasingly hit or miss, up or down, if you get my drift

I agree, although I don't personally like full-on music I don't believe it is as bad as damion psyreviews describes it.

And considering he gave "Save the Robot" album a 7 which to me is characteristic of the same quality of production and ideas, I would suggest you should take his reviews with a large grain of salt.

AP records: do not feel threatened by one man's voice, if you believe in the artists and the music then continue what you are doing.

I bought this album as i found one of smuhgs tracks on a much loved Sundance records release

Its not the best album i have heard, but i enjoy that he ranges his styles from full on sounds to chill as the album finishes.

I would give it 6/10

peace
