Pixan say:
'excuse me man, but i havent seen any of the even most underground artists have any political contect in their music'

But I am not talking about the LYRICS in the music, I am talking about WHO and WHAT you support. For exqample, in the last year, I have been to 2 psytrance events that were purely for charity (and fun). The first was an Africa benefit gig where Tron came and played (he was good ) - I think it was donations on the door and the monies went to Medicin Sans Frontier - and the second gig was last week, which was for the homeless. This involved making a donation and/or bringing food to be distributed to homeless peoples.
People had fun and helped others less well-off.

Other trance peoples also do charity events - I went to a 'Survival International' benefit gig a few years back where Younger Brother, Tristan, and a few nontrance bands played. But it was less publicised because the advertising revenues behind Survival are a lot less than those behind Pepsi Inc.

So its not about lyrics, but rather the content of one's character (with apologies to Martin Luther King)and actions

@ June

Hi June (flaming June?)

Yes, I'm sure he started off with noble intent but becoming popular surely means you have more choices about how you earn your living. Joan Baez was popular but she put her money into opening hippy schools or hiding Weathermen (and ended up having to go on the run ).
I'm just saying that the authorities usually have a tight rein on what is permissible and legal, and MNCs will then sell you back your culture in legally persmissible forms. I have even seen techno music used to sell the british newspaper 'The Telegraph' which is a newspaper full of contempt for those with alternative lifestyles (i.e., they supported Mrs Thatcher in her heyday) - but they need to have a younger audience too and so use youth culture (which they're quite happy to diss in their leader columns)and techno, if need be, to sell their produucts. Therefore, if people want to buy your influence then maybe it means that you have influence - if you give it to a MNC then its like a zero-sum game where ALL your credibility and influence with certain members of the 'community' is shipped out to the MNC. If you choose to use your influence for good causes then its like a positive-sum game whereby good karma is multiplied (that was just a thought )

But it is a (allegedly) free country

It's over. Today Skazi appeared on a 3 big pages of the biggest Israeli newspapper. I wish someone could translate all this story. It talks about new international rock star that we never had, "sounds somehow like an israeli Prodigy", punk trance, 20000 euro cash per gig, pepsi world tour with Red Hot Chilli Pepperes, Brazil & Mexico as his future home and mainly about how easy is to get a chick, Skazi's less excitment about one girl - he now prefers 2 and many other groupie screw stories.

Also Skazi says that there is no money in PsyTrance scene and he leaved this scene some time ago already.

Not everyone sees teh trance scene they way the dancer or trance party goer does.

Some live the life.....some just go to take drugs.

Each to their own.

Same with Producers.

Not all believe in doing it for charity.

Its his choice on how he wants his carreer to be.

The simple life....or the limelight.

Maybe he will hate it in a few years time and become a recluse.....shying away from teh media.

Let him decide.

Sure.....i hear ya.....just giving your opinion....

Yeah, but he probably thinks he's helping reconstruct Macedonia - like bringing in new capital (or fun times??) or something. I mean, DJ Vadim played Red Square a few years back and made a lot of people happy by turning the square over to, well, techno house The main thing is the 'kids' will get a taste of H which is better than a taste of Cola or no festival.
Would you rather go to a sponsored festival and see/hear H (in your home town!), or buy a pepsi 'cos an advert by S told you to??

Anyhow, Maybe its difficult to get the VENTURE CAPITAL necessary to put festivals on in macedonia - I mean, what is the AVERAGE WAGE/PER CAPITA INCOME for the average macedonian?? Can they afford to bring in foreign artistes/musicians to festivals?

Who knows - perhaps

But playing at a SPONSORED FESTIVAL may not be quite the same thing as being sponsored ONESELF, is it??
If you go to some ex-eastern european countries, the cities are littered with western consumer advertising billboards and sponsors - maybe the organisers could only afford to put on a large electronica festival thru sponsorship, or the politics of the place is such that the only festivals that are acceptable to the authorities are quite 'straight' or commercial events.

According to your criteria, uvego, trance artists wouldn't be able to have their music played on commercial radio stations or sell their music in commercial/malestream/mainstream record shops because it would compromise the 'authenticity' of the music. Going with the commercial scene in order to get one's music across might not be the same as selling one's soul (or performing rights) in and thru one single product and being IDENTIFIED with that product.

But what do I know about having a career?

PS. Nobody talked about killing anything (apart from the scene) , I think you confused it with the 'Frankenstein' movie where the villagers shout: "Kill the Monster! Kill the Monster!" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenstein_%281931_film%29

PPS. Nothing that I have written here has remotely gone back on anything I have written in previous posts on this topic (see above)
