Sirius Isness - Breaking the Matrix -- Mind Control Records

This is the third release of Mind Control Records. Sirius Isness Debut album... Sirius Isness are Max Peterson and Davina Elmosnino. I bought this release because of the samples at http://www.mindcontrolrecords.com I’m expecting to find at least 3 tracks that could be played in my sets here.

Cover: The cover show some flying speakers inside what is supposed to be the Matrix. The graphic design was made by OverStep. The back cover has the BPMs of all tracks. The time I took from my CDJ.

Package: I have the "Brazilian edition", made in Brazil by Sonopress Rimo at Amazonia. The CD is green and seems like low quality (some of the ink is missing in some parts, seems like a pressing problem). Standard package, nothing to add...

Track List:

1 - Breaking The Matrix 146 BPM -- 7:56
2 - I Want Freedom 147 BPM -- 8:18
3 - Oxygenation 145 BPM -- 7:48
4 - Radar Detection 145 BPM -- 8:01
5 - Legion of Angels (Album Rmx) 144 BPM -- 7:56
6 - Sirius Conspiracy 147 BPM -- 8:27
7 - The Psydream 145 BPM -- 8:13
8 - MK Ultra 145 BPM -- 8:11
9 - Retro Life System (Live Mix) 145 BPM -- 7:57

Track by track:

1 - Breaking The Matrix --> This first track, with the same name of the Album, is a powerful dance floor weapon. It has samples from the movie THX 1138: "Take four Red Capsules" and "I want you to take a visual record of this", this fits very well the track name.

2 - I Want Freedom --> It starts with the sample from the movie Waking Life: "De-humanization I'm concerned of the structure, I’m concerned of the systems of control, those who control my life and those who seek to control it even MORE. I want FREEDOM!" It’s a good, steady full on track, with distorted noises and pumping bass. Fits well a full on Set.

3 - Oxygenation --> Distorted samples and a strong kick/bass combination... At 2:00 the track is pumping. At 2:40 the sample says something about a "Serious chemical unbalance"... At 3:30 we got a funny break and than: BOOM! Melodies! Great I like it! When I start to think something is missing there comes the vocoded voices... Less than 2 minutes to the end... another break "Remember that any overdose may cause a serious chemical unbalance". This track is different from usual full on, a little more self-contained, could be more explosive.

4 - Radar Detection --> Starts with a sample form the movie ´Signs´: "Mexico City officials as well as U. S. Officials have confirmed that these are not aircraft from either government's air force. The first sighting was made by an Air Mexico 747 en route from Mazatlán to New York as the unidentified crafts entered Mexico City air space. They were not detected by radars..."
It’s clear the Sirius guys are trying to make something different in this track. Many breaks and different baselines... I will play this one just to check it... it’s 6:00 and after this break it’s full on madness... Good track.

5 - Legion of Angels (Album Rmx) --> This track is a remix to previously released track on the compilation Mind Controllers. Starts with the sample:

"You think you're going to crawl into my brain and see a show?
Is that what I am?
Is that what you think?
I've got legions of angels up here like little moths, they're gonna beat the hell outta of you with their wings."

Well, not much to comment here, except that the track is very different from the original and that I prefer the original.

6 - Sirius Conspiracy --> This fast track (147 BPM) begin with a nice bass. when we reach the 2:00 there's a break, some unintelligible sample and the psychedely starts. At 3:55 arrives a break and the sample: "There is no Conspiracy!" The track become steady but still sounds like something is missing. 5:05... Another long break... the same sample and the track keep going average full on.

7 - The Psydream --> Weirdly this track sounds more solid than the others to me... Nice percussion and synths, powerful bass. Its 2:30 and we have a long break with a sample I can't understand. around 3:30 a very good bass comes in... I'm enjoying it, hope something different happen. At 5:00 we got a sample break and a melody shows up. Synths... Good stuff.

8 - MK Ultra --> Uhmmm... Voices... LSD... Begin with some psychedelic elements... the sample: "MK Ultra" appears only after 5 minutes... I found this track average.

9 - Retro Life System (Live Mix) --> Starts with the sample "Remember what I told you, we're not so different you and I". I have great expectative for this track, since the rest of the album is not what I would call "my taste". It's a pumping track. Nice melodies after the 4th minute. It's a good track. Good stuff at 6:20 saved the day!

Good debut album, full of samples and I LOVE samples. Not exactly my taste and could have one more track, it has less than 73 minutes of total playtime.

Favorite tracks: 1, 4(!), 7, 9. I must confess I got a little disapointed with this release...

Verdict: 7/10 -- Points for improvement could be improve the psychedelic side or try more experimental stuff like the track 4 and the end of track 9.
A very good point is that it's a full on album without guitars.

Listen to the samples and decide for yourself:

Really sorry, my mistake. It's their second album, I already knew their first album (but forgot about it ), and think this second is better (really didn't like the first).

Sorry, but here in Brazil it's already available, I bought it at www.soundshop.com.br :

Shit! I bought it for R$ 33,90 and now it's R$ 29,90!

The Brasilian version has a different track order? Funny... Was it a mistake?

Also the track whose name in my album is: Sirius Conspiracy was renamed as YOU CAN DO IT ??? Please answer this.

Well...
first time i heard the album, i thought it was a little below my espectatives... but i heard it a couple more times, and it's really good... the samples are very nice, and the melodies are good as well!!
I want freedom works very well at the dancefloor!!
number 3 and 5 are really well worked tracks too!
Although it's not as amazing as their debut album resolution of duality (which is a master piece IMO), it's really worthy 2 buy!!
8/10
