my opinion...
i like trance because it is universal. it can mean everything and nothing at the sametime. it can mean something different from person to person. but as soon as you add words to the song, there is a message. you take that universal part away.
additionally, its just overused.

I prefer singing in psytrance to be used as an instrument, not lyrics. Like Shpongle, Younger Brother and Shulman for instance ...
Not to be used as cheesy pop vocals as we see more and more these days. To me that doesn't sound like psytrance, but pop-trance with a lasershot kick and saw-wave bassline...

Like with everything in art, if you do it from the heart you do it right. If you do it from the pocket you do it wrong. I don't care if there are vocals or not. If it's done well like Talpa - The Moon, Fly Agaric - I See Myself than it's good and highly psychedelic. If it's done to expand the market like in Hypersonic's Lerger Then Life than it's bad.
My 2 pennies.

I really do have a problem with pretty much any singing in psy-trance. One of the reasons why I evolved my taste towards this kind of music in the first place was that there were no vocals in the tracks, just the odd sample which when correctly placed could really catapult you into space-land whilst swirling on the dance floor..
Sphongle's track DMT seems to have sparked the vocoder sampling in alot of psy music these days, and I generally wince when I hear most of it, but I guess I should just try and be a bit less set in my ways. But when I hear 'lyrics' that are sung as part of some sort of psy-pop anthem I really can't stand it!! I mean what the f*** are these people thinking..? I just frown, bemused and walk the other way.

Well, usually i don't like singing in psytrance but sometimes is really good, specially a nice femalle voice, but usually other than that is crap. You can see that difference in the new "chacota" Astrix - Closer 2 heaven. Michele's voice enters the music perfect with the flow, calming, clean, nice. But the other vocals that says "... just listen to my voice and follow me, ill make you HAPPY there, you will see..." (HAPPY?? what the F$@#??) is the worst thing someone could do with the song, it just fucks it up so bad, i don't know what kinda drug Astrix was using when thinking on that but its sure a strong one.
On vocals not singing i like when they say something "interesting", hehe. Like a song from Naked Turist i heard recently, "Can you fuck as well as you dance?" HAHAHAHAHAHA, thats a nice vocal.

try making a track with these sentences being sung by:
Female voice : Ohhhhh..... yeahhhhhhh open your wallet ..... causeeeee.......
Male : Thats... what .... we..... LIKE!
Female... Ohhhhh... yeahhh..... open your wallettttttttttttttt
male : Thats ... what we.... want!!!!
Female & male at a break before the peak of the track : MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!! it's PSYCHEDELIC - its FANTASTIC - ITS REVOLUTIONARY - IT MAKES US RICH AND FAMOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssss
tatattatatatattaa ITZ ITZ BOM BOM BOM!!!! tanannananana
then another build up , a break and : pink floyd money theme comes in.
-----
Vocals are good, nice, fun as long as they are not SUPER artificialyu vocoded and singing shit for money.
X Dream - the 1st. now thats good singing |

"too many too much too rubbish i think.
cheers to infected, we now have more and more songs with that "depeche mode through a megaphone" singing.
michelle adamson works on stuff like younger brother or shpongle, where her voice is just like another instrument. IMO any more than that is a mistake."
i agree with this post )
and Michelle Adamson has begun to be the Kylie of Psy trance.....not my bag at all |

yea yea, my mistake,
i got mixed up
that track is boring though its a nice idea, I like this song,
now about the singing:
singing can be heavy power metal, and this is brutal track!
then that depends in the words and the singer, I know if I had like real heavy metal psytrance with the words and everything wwoooowww
these words by their self can gen get you hospetalized
