I actually thought the cinematography/lighting was quite Hitchcockesque and kinda refreshing in that way.
I didn't expect a lot from this, other than some suspense and chills and twists got just what I expected. Nothing brilliant.

This is one of the worst movies I ever Seen. The script is terrible. From The minute I saw the band Aid on Dicaprio's forehead I Knew How it's gonna end. What happened to Scorsese?!? Twist? There is nothing surprising here. "The Six Sense", "Unbreakable" and the masterpiece "The Village" Had an unbelievable surprising ending. Also "Memento" and "The Others".
In all those movies the one who wrote the script succeed to surprise.
In "Shutter Island" you can guess the ending from the band aid.

To those who say the end twist is predictable, I have to say wait a minute.
What I found poignant was that it seemed in the end that he consciously decided to go out as a man of honor, rather than as 'as monster' (the reality).
I thought that was acceptable, and not the more predictable story, which would have been that he only faked believing the doctors and was never really brought to reality. There's a big difference, imo.

this movies script was horrible. the movie itself was beautiful the sound was great. but the plot and twist will really leave you pissed off. I liked the whole Nazis doing experiments idea.
I have a question though. Did they just take him out to sea and bring him back with the whole place all of a sudden giving the best acting performances of there life? this is really stupid.
I just watched Gangs of New York and thats a damn nice Scorsese!!

im with pavel on this.. this one deserve 9/10 if not more.. brilliant screenplay, amazing audio and video, twisted and sick performance by all the players including leo, which is by far one of his best performances.
This is a psy experience above all.

we saw it yesterday,4 persons.1 slept when the flashbacks started,the other 3 were totally dissapointed.not good martin,not good.

anyone who thinks ben kingsley isnt good should do themselves a favour and watch "Sexy beast" and you will never think about him as anything less than awesome whether he is being a whore these days or not.

I liked. I think you guys are judging it only bu it's story.
Which I do agree it's not that impressive.
However, cinematography is awesome and the soundtrack is superb.
6,5. Which is a good score, compared to bunch of crap I've seen lately.

This movie is good stuff, I thought the plot was solid - no over-twist which makes this movie enjoyable only once (the Sixth Sense) but rather about a character. A lot of visual and auditory strength, excellent direction, good acting overall, and a nice blurring of the real and unreal.
The only thing that annoyed me was DiCaprio, which still looks like he's in a boy band, and didn't quite sell the whole stressed-out thing despite his attempts at twitchy behavior. The other actors were all perfect though.
