friends, freaks and travellers..

id like to introduce a game to this forum where we see where all the shpongle samples are from hehe

This is in NO WAY meant to be a negative post and i would appreciate it if we keep that out of here.. if you have a problem with them sampling and not composing their own tunes then there was thread sometime ago concerning this..

This is purely to find out from where all in the world simon and raj have got their awesome samples from

you need to say the song name and where the sample is from

Peace and love

Since i started this thread i get the easiest one

Terence McKenna and Spacetime continuim - Alien Dreamtime

terence has been samples in numerous shpongle songs..
"you vaporise and you take it in and in and in. .and ther eis this sound... like the cra*klin, ****ling... of a plastic bread wrapper.. "

"what they are doign is making gifts for you"

"coming at you like dribbling basketballs"

Just a much needed correction, Simon and Raja DID compose their own songs. The samples are merely on top of and around their compositions.           ****keep the peace****

answer to all the tracks from both albums:
Spectrasonic's "Vocal Planet Vol 1-6" and "Heart of Asia/Africa".

I think what Surrender is trying to say is, if you stripped out all the wonderful samples (captured/produced by Eric Persing and Roby Duke for Spectrasonics) from Shpongle's music, it may not seem as incredible. I mean, just listening to that Vocal Planet "world" demo made me think I was hearing a stripped mix intro of DMT.

Personally, I think Raja Ram's flute is the true brilliance of Shpongle, and would be fine with just hearing Raja play his flute solo. Maybe he should make HIS OWN sample disc! Then any producer can feel free to buy and use Raja's flute in their productions!

It all comes down to timing. The fact that Simon worked these samples into his music before most other producers in the scene makes it seem beyond fantastic at first, until people discover the truth of the matter. The truth that part of Shpongle's "magic" relies on brilliant samples that ANYONE can purchase. If people are going to 'debunk' producer's techniques, they are in for a major surprise as the more you look, the more you will find that this practice is more than common in the scene.

Peace

goblin i think the hello in day turned to night is definately an indian accent... also there are sounds from the roadside i might be wrong but it sounds like a bombay railway station or somethign along those lines i might be wrong... . also there is a sort of radio announcement or something going off in the background.. like an oldschool radio sound...

when the flute starts i think also that its taken from a traditional indian song called the snake charmers song.. again needs to be verified..

did anyone see the movie salton sea... thers a part of the movie when hes playing his sax and its the same tune form one of the shpongle songs... i htink he mentioned somethign about miles davis and the haunting melody or something....

if anyone knows, id love to get the original..

regarding 'snake charmer'.... its also a setting on the Korg Wavestation...... a full appergiated sample.... which is where they got it.

and yes, i think Shpongle are still 'bloody' brilliant!          "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

For the record, me too. I also apologize to udit for going offtopic against his request in the initial post.

I know that the Vapour Rumours sample where a guy is talking about "this may well be the most important day in human history....is a gas or something...somethings happening" or something like that is from Carl Sagan's movie Contact.

I don't recall any "that is so weird"s, only a "that is so rude".. hmm i have to check into it

The "joooooo ooooooO" turkish opera thingy on Around The World In A Tea Daze is from Voices Of Istanbul sample cd. Just like lots of stuff from Dorset Perception. And the "tennenniii tennennii" thingy aswell.

http://www.mtlc.net/main.php?a=scd&ShowCD=1307&b=MTLC%20Home

The beginning of Shpongle Falls is from Jurassic Park, the T-Rex noise thingy I mean.

The beginning of Around The World In A Tea Daze is from some spanish guys solo album.. can't remember the name.. Jose something i think..

"Thats so weird" is at the beginning of Star Shpongled Banner.

It starts with these:

You ever had a psychadelic
Laughing
Cool
That is so weird
Whoa
I must say it is quiet weird
Psychadelic
etc
