its not like the older sphongle stuff.
thats not bad, its just different. its not as psychedelic.
i totally dig the dubtechno influences he blends into his work now..
i did not like the samples when they were online at first. bought it anyway, and then having the cd spin in my living room player and cooking to it and doing stuff i found myself cranking up the stereo more and more and dig that groovy shit. really like it now and maybe you need another go as i did as well. better than the last two albums imho.
and danceable!

After a couple of listens... if you forget standards set by the previous albums then this is not bad, but if you've listened to older Shpongle, Younger Brother, Prometheus, Hallucinogen... this album seems like a mishmash of all of those signature sounds without anything unique apart from maybe a coat of polish and a lot more of a dancefloor groove.

There seems to a lot more new producers that have embodied the tribal psychedelia and vibe of older Shpongle better than they have.

This to me is the complete opposite of what they did when they reinvented Younger Brother with the last album, either way they got a lot of dung thrown at them. Guess the only way out of this rut with their fanbase from the psytrance community is if Simon releases a new Hallucinogen or maybe even remix this album.

Mmh, first I hated this album and afer that I have had moments, where I truely loved it. I think that for me it is not possible to judge it, since everything depends on time and mood. A valueing of facts such as style, instumentation, copying old sounds e.g. for me personally makes no sense, since it`s all about how one is able to enjoy or not enjoy, without having an objective view all the time.

When we talk about this album and how Simon & co. relate to the "psytrance community," we've got to consider history.

What I mean is this: For a long time Twisted was a tiny little label, just squeaking by financially, making a niche genre of music which (after a brief moment of popularity in the UK) would never generate much interest or gain much respect outside of its little, quirky culture. Aside from trance, Simon & co. occasionally put out some lovingly crafted ambient/chillout albums that were treasured by us and played heavily in chillout areas at parties, but which were really quite unknown in the greater world.

In the mid-2000s, all of that changed. When the US festival scene began to grow and expand via the influx of jamtronica bands, audiences of twentysomething kids with no exposure to or interest in psytrance discovered Shpongle and Ott, and went crazy for them. Simon suddenly had many more gigs, many more fans, many more opportunities to make a decent living from his music. And who can blame him? He went with that as any intelligent person would.

I think this explains a lot of what these guys have done since that time. The new, big audience is the goose that lays the golden eggs, and they're being careful to give it what it wants. That's why the last two Shpongle albums have been kind of uninspired by our standards, and so very devoid of the beautiful ambient influences in "Are You Shpongled?" -- because they're writing material to play at big festivals, not for your home soundsystem. It also explains why Ott wrote "Mir" with such an obvious dubstep sound: it's what the audience wants.

The psychedelic chillout world continues to turn, of course, and we've had many brilliant artists who were clearly inspired by Infinity Project/Yeti/Shpongle/Ott material from "back then." But to expect the Twisted crew to cater to our interests these days doesn't make a lot of sense.

I've listened all the way through once. I felt that I enjoyed it but my head was tired and achy.

The 4/4 bits make me glad he hasn't done a Hallucinogen 3 if that's any indication of what it'd sound like.

Hope he enjoys the rewards his reaping, he deserves something after years of serving the psy scene.           Cuntus Maximus.
