X3doZ,

i use my Virus C in Live 6 - it should work the same way for you.

- connect the midi i/o of the Virus to your soundcard's midi i/o.

- connect the audio outs of the Virus to your soundcard's audio inputs.

- setup one midi channel (i call it 'virus out'). in the channel dropdown menu select 'Ext Out' and choose 'Out' midi port of your soundcard. arm the channel.

- setup a second midi channel ('virus in', perhaps? ). select 'Ext In' for the channel input and choose 'In' midi port of your soundcard. if you want to record midi CC events etc. then arm this channel.

- setup a new audio channel for each pair of Virus outputs you want to use. i tend to run just one channel and bounce as i go. from the dropdown menu select 'Ext In' and choose the audio inputs of your soundcard which are connected to the Virus outs. arm this channel.

load a midi clip into the 'virus out' channel, press record and play the clip. move some of the knobs. stop recording (i prefer to work in the Arrangement view for this stuff, it's useful to have a timeline view of what you're recording).

you should now have a new audio clip of your Virus's output. i tend to immediately rename this clip with the Virus patch number for reference.

you should also now have a new midi clip in the 'virus in' channel. this will be blank with no notes, but if you double click on the clip and look at the midi events, you should see automation which has been recorded. you can then either copy this to a new midi out channel for Virus automation, or just take note of the parameters you want to automate (i think filter cutoff is midi cc 44).

if you want to use the virus in multi or multisingle mode, you need to set up different 'virus outs' for each part, then specify different midi output channels. so:

'virus out 1' > Ext Out > Yoursoundcardmidiport > Channel 1

'virus out 2' > Ext Out > Yoursoundcardmidiport > Channel 2

etc.

either you can just use 2 of the Virus outputs, or you can split the Virus parts across its outputs so you can edit them separately. check your manual for instructions.

Ok.. I will try this..
But I should also say that I am using a Roland PCR-1 midi keybaord with built in soundcard that has NO midi, so I am using a USB -> Midi cable to my virus, and audio output connected to the synth..

Thanks for taking your time helping me!

recommend to take a pen and a piece of paper and draft the audio & MIDI signal flow between your machines.
this way you will find out quick where the problem should be.           http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

something really crazy is FM modulated by external input.
so what do u do? you take the left canal of the virus out 1, and connect it to the input 1. now the oscillator frequency is modulated by it's own frequency !!! on certain notes, it's totally white noise, on some others something strange happens until the tone is stable.
then take the pitchbend wheel, and go crazy

Okay, to make crazy harsching-squelching-farting psy leads, take a lead sound that u like and go in the mod matrix, then route an lfo to the "transpose" function (rather than osc's pitch) and route the same lfo to HP filter with half resonance...
Add chorus, reverb, delay an booooom           Psy stuff : myspace.com/neyaprod

LOL, fuzzy, you don't happen to be one of the guys who thinks a synthesizer becomes bad if many people have it?

My Virus TI Tip.
Use the interface to program own arpegiator patterns!

If you use Virus (TI or not) with Cubase: Connect all analog outputs to the inputs of the audio interface.. hopefully you have 6 inputs spare. Set up an "external instrument" in cubase. create one stereo return and 4 mono returns (or how ever you like to work). Open up the external instrument in the VST rack. Voila, Virus integrated nicely into cubase.          Most of my music for you to download at:
