Why Organic
The environmental impact of excessive use to chemical fertilizers and pesticides was only revealed as years passed by. In 2009, under a Greenpeace Research Laboratories investigation, Dr Reyes Tirado, from the University of Exeter, UK, conducted a study in 50 villages in Muktsar, Bathinda and Ludhiana districts that revealed chemical, radiation and biological toxicity was rampant in Punjab. 20% of the sampled wells showed nitrate levels above the safety limit of 50 mg/l, established by WHO. The study connected this finding with high use of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers. With increasing poisoning of the soil, the region once hailed as the home to the Green Revolution, now due to excessive use of chemical fertilizer, is being termed by one columnist as the "Other Bhopal". For example, Buddha Nullah, a rivulet which run through Malwa region of Punjab, India, and after passing through highly populated Ludhiana district, before draining into Sutlej River, a tributary of the Indus river, is today an important case point in the recent studies, which suggest this as another Bhopal in making.A joint study by PGIMER and Punjab Pollution Control Board in 2008, revealed that in villages along the Nullah, calcium, magnesium, fluoride, mercury, beta-endosulphan and heptachlor pesticide were more than permissible limit (MPL) in ground and tap waters. Plus the water had high concentration of COD and BOD (chemical and biochemical oxygen demand), ammonia, phosphate, chloride, chromium, arsenic and chlorpyrifos pesticide. The ground water also contains nickel and selenium, while the tap water has high concentration of lead, nickel and cadmium. (wiki)

that is disturbing, punjab was supplying most of the rice/wheat and other food products few years back, now i think it borrows from other states, and does the food growing on such land, and fed such poisoned water, have inherent dangers when consumed? do plants tend to store chemicals and pass them on to the eater? does all this poisoning cause genetic anomaly's with in the plant itself? and humans aswell? like chemical poisoning, this is serious stuff and must be taken and dealt with properly through the right political channels using media to promote and generate interst i nsuch causes to get it actively done.soo mcuh to do , soo much work,its tough no doubt.
but ;lot of farmers have taken up organic farming also, and using no such chemicals once the awareness is generated it tends to catch on very very quickly among the farmers. and nowdays there is lots of help from science and technology which helps create a clean green sphere to live in. and on topic:

It is like.. if u eat chemicals.. it will stay in the blood.. same with the plants.. if u feed them with chemicals, they will have it in them.. and it is very dangerous for consumers.. differnt types of cancer and other dangerous sicknesses spread.. not only it is dangerous to humans.. the soil it self becomes addicted to chemicals.. each year the soil needs more chemicals to grow same amount of crops than the previous year.
But there are many ways to save the soil, if it is treated with right organic fertilizer, the soil can retain its original form in time.
we will have work shop on these topic in the festival.. ORganic all the way.. please do spread the consciousness..
