I love the sound of the SH 101. Do you know any good emulation of it ? There are a lot of emulations of TB303 and even replications (xoxbox) but i see nothing for the SH 101.
By the way why the hell roland doesn't produce those legendary synths again ? They would be best sellers. |

Emulations (hardware or software), don't usually come close enough for me. The xoxbox perhaps, if using the same NOS transistors as the original. I've owned a 101/202/303/606/808/909 and nothing comes close really.
Roland don't produce them any more, because since the end of the 80's, they have been phasing out analogue electronics and concentrating on digital. A re-issue analogue synth is just not a viable financial option, they don't have the infrastructure there any more, and to set it up would be so expensive, that the final cost to the buyer would probably be more than what the vintage units go for, even now. Add to that, the fact that this is a very boutique instrument. You, and me, and your friends, and everyone on here, might think they would sell bucket-loads, but the sad fact is that your average dude in Guitar Centre will be more interested in the latest Rompler or VA.
There are many boutique manufacturers creating AMAZING new analogue, and digital gear, at very reasonable prices, that is capable of creating entirely new sounds, not stuck in any retro fad. I feel we should be supporting their endeavours more!

hardware you can find some similar sounds with future retro xs , some euro rack module, cwejman modules and synth .. these don't sound identical ,maybe wont replace a 101 butin the other hand it sell new and sound good too. ( personally i find the 101 can sound so good , it s like the 303 , its maybe nostalgy but when i hear these synth there is something special.. the same feeling is harder to get with newer synth or plugins) |

I am hoping for adafruit/mode machines to make an sh-x0x kit.
I am grateful they did the 303 clone, if they do the 101 clone, I'll be as happy as a pig in shit.
Having said that there is great new analogue synths out, Phatty, Prophet 08, x0xb0x...etc and finding a good working sh-101 gets harder and harder, as it also gets very expensive.
Peace out.

There is also the free TAL Bassline, which although pales when I put them side by side, it does do some stuff rather nice + it has a midi syncable S&H LFO waveform for them ManWithNoName spacey resonant filter sequences.
Peace out.

tc's emulation is nowhere near. its just a random synth that came down to tc's heads in SH-101 like skin.

check the future retro xs ,it s a bit more than a 101.. it sound fabulous . i discussed about it with someone that have experience with old roland synths, system 100 m and some sh serie , he said me it s close and the closest he know to the old roland synth sound.
most demo don't do it justice as the osc and amp volume are often too high making saturate and sound very edgy, harsh, its cool for some sounds ...but if you keep the volume low internally it sound more liquid. |

to build up some g.a.s. :
http://forum.isratrance.com/the-roland-sh-101-appreciation-thread/
i'd have to disagree about the prophet 08.
i tweeked one at a shop and it was a disappointment.
perhaps the biggest one ever when talking about synths.
it felt cheap, unintuitive and the sound wasn't that good either especially looking at the price tag.

Does it come as 'close' to the original Sh-101 as Phoscyon to the original Tb-303? |
