Agreed Spyros, last night was such a let down. It seemed like the big issue was that whoever booked the Venue for Neo Sapiens didn't adequately communicate between the two parties what kind of party this would be. The venue thought it was ending at 2am, while the event was scheduled until 6am.

Aside from that, earlier in the night the Psy stage was missing CDJ's (with only vinyl), which may have worked for the guy who was out there at the time (Hypnotic Starr), but wouldn't for anybody else who was supposed to play. In fact, Bob Motamedi showed up, and ended up just taking off (after driving down from Vegas) because there was no place for him to spin on CDJ's... such a waste!

Got to see Scenator (and nice meeting you PsyDrama), which was good in itself (great set!), but was so let down when I heard Spyros, Barracuda, and Konflux weren't going to show up (practically my reason for coming).

Even outside of the Psy stage though, there were issues... Matt Cerf the major Trance headliner showed up and didn't get to spin either, same goes for all the headliners minus Peter Distefano.

I had high hopes because every Neo Sapiens party of past (the last 10 or so at least) has been a blast, without any of the issues normally associated with "raves." Historically, they've been the one rave promoter I've come across who really knows how to throw a good party.

Again, sad I didn't get to see most of psytribe tear up the psy stage... I guess this just goes to prove how lucky we are to have promoters like Psytribe, Green Sector, Ananda, etc..

Was it ever a mess! I got there at 12:30 AM. Got inside just before 1 AM. It had the makings of a good party, but it wasn't to be. I suppose I might've felt better had I got there at 8 PM and inside for $20 instead paying $35 and having the place closed down 50 minutes later. I was planning on checking out the various other types of music and people at this party, all the while knowing that I could count on the Psytribe crew for delivering the goods when I wanted to trance out and get to stomping. I knew something was up when the lights came on at 1:45. Oh well.

Hey, twelve hours later I was at Woodley park and got some after all. A few of the people from the Earth Is One Country recognized me from the early morning and came over to say hi.

I'm rather new to finding these events, so I'd certainly appreciate any warning if this can be spotted in advance. I think I have just been rather lucky in the first few events I have happened upon and the amazing and caring people that I have had the good fortune to meet and have me at their gatherings and make me feel welcome. I saw the Psytribe logo on the flier and just made the assumption. No wonder Spyros was feeling sad when I saw him later at the park. Lots of effort and time it takes to build a good name and reputation and it can be smudged and soiled quite easily.

So thank you very much Andrew and Terrakroma, Psytribe, Greensector, and Willy. It is why I have the logos on my truck. Cryptic they may be to the general public, but I like them showing out to the world. I'm inclined to give the Neosapiens crew another try again. I'd hate to have one bad time ruin it for me if they are a dependable source, but a first impression, good or bad, is quite often how the basis of a long term relationship is determined. I did talk to the promoter after the event was closed down and he seemed genuinely concerned about what had happened. For the time being I'll go with what I know.           - - -

Yeah seriously, parties are hit or miss. Sometimes they have all the makings of an excellent party, and something happens that goes to ruin the night (like this one). Other times a party that seems like it's just going to be mediocre or 'ok' ends up being one of the best you've ever attended; a lot of it is luck.

Now you should know that what happened was neither the fault of Psytribe nor Neo Sapiens to be honest. They're both good promoters in my book, although Neo Sapiens doesn't have quite the spotless track record of the almighty Psytribe. This time, it was a breach of contract on behalf of the venue that screwed things up. Neo Sapiens throws raves, and having been around the scene for awhile, I can say that your average rave hits nowhere near the quality of your average psy party. However, don't get me wrong, there are definitely some great raves to be had, they're just harder to find. Now when Psytribe, Green Sector, or one of the other psy promoters puts a party together, you KNOW it's going to be awesome, this is not typical in any party scene.

I wouldn't write off Neo Sapiens. In fact, they're one of the only LA rave promoters who regularly include good psytrance lineups. In addition, as I previously stated, all their other parties have been gold.

Phillipe, owner of Neo Sapiens is a bit scatter brained, but he's a sweetheart. He definitely has pure intentions with everything he does. He just wants to put together great parties, and watch people enjoy them. He probably could have dealt with the situation a bit better, but who knows. I'm sure that he at least tried to do the best he could with what he had. On a personal note, I know that Phillipe himself has a passion for psytrance and music overall, and that's a plus on any promoter's part. And the Neo Sapiens as an organization have an uncanny and completely real passion for what they do.

To makeup for the "bad party" they've been throwing weekly Friday campouts by the way. And their next big party, Primal Trance has all the makings to be amazing. Last year it was at The Henry Fonda Theater, one of my favorite venues, and went down amazingly. This year, the event is actually being referred to as "Trance vs Psytrance" which totally excites me.

But yes, as I said parties are hit or miss, you can't always tell.
