Hello Isratrancers
Saikosounds will soon launch a paid digital download service in partnership with many well known labels and we would like to get some feedback on the format(s) that people are most interested in. Basically, we are considering the following options:
128k mp3 @ $US 1.00
192k mp3 @ $US 1.25
320k mp3 @ $US 1.50
lossless @ $US 2.00 (likely to be Monkey’s Audio)
Pricing is not yet finalized, and we will have some discount incentives for the purchase of entire albums and also for the purchase of both downloads and CDs.
There will be no copy protection / digital rights management.
Feedback can also be posted to our website here:
http://www.saikosounds.com/english/contact.asp [please select the “Digital Download Feedback” dropdown]
Greetings

i suggest 320kpbs as your bottom quality
also another option is VBR ranging no lower then 192kpbs.
good direction, good ideas! "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

great idea!!!
High Quality VBR instead of 192 kbps - $1.00
320 kbps - $1.50
and lossless - $2.00
I'm not heart-broken for wavs. you want the wavs, buy the CD.
Can't wait!!! How soon is this happening??
  ..it's just another party.. |

Well if it happen I will probably set up myself chilled compilations with tracks taken here and there from dance albums..
And I'll take the highest quality available..
What about .ogg files ?
Having said that, I think it would be my only use of such a service.. If I want a full album or compilation I would go on buying the CD.

No, it's not a joke. We don't think it's a laughing matter....sorry that you find it funny. We have many customers in asia who have only a dial up internet connection and yet still want to download. Therefore we are considering offering 128k mp3s.
These are not mutually exclusive options. In all liklihood we will offer 2 types of mp3 plus a lossless format. We are just trying to find out what is likely to be most popular.

Ok. But who wants to pay 1$ for cr*p? I say 0.10$ for a 128k mp3 is good, maybe 0.20$.

A normal cd at the moment contains around 10 tracks.
10 * 2 = 20
20$ for data of only ONE cd? That far to much, i don't even get a blank cd with it, i still need to burn it if i want to listen in cdplayer and i don't get any cover art work etc. with it.
So MAXIMUM 1$ for lossless files.
I don't want you to see me as one who don't like the idea, i think it is a very good idea. But with that prices i see no sense in buying music. For 20$ i get the cd + shipping cost, so why should i download it?
Peace

Hehe EYB maybe they charge a high price at the start to equla out the costs of such a project then it comes down? No need to be aggressive in response dude I think this is great, there is much music I'd like to have gotten whilst travelling overseas but had no address to have it sent to, now I can choose a few tracks to download and enjoy on my travels until I get home and uy the cd's EYB, maybe you should consider this could help out stopping mp3 pirates and encourage the music industry as whole to embrace the future of digital technology instead of thiking of cash in you rpocket No real harm meant tho dude |

Wav would come under lossless, although we are highly unlikely to offer wav. Monkey's or FLAC are the likely contenders for lossless. And if you really wanted to you could ceate a perfect wav from either. |

Big big Sorry if i sounding aggressive in the response!
I didn't want that!
Yes the idea is very good, like i already said. Only problem is the price.
One example:
Droidlock: Elefantronika (CD) - 10 Tracks
Downloaded at Saiko: 20$
Psyshop cd+shipping: 18.42$
So i get the real cd for less money then the downloaded.

As I mentioned originally pricing is not yet fixed *and* we will have a discount structure to enable people to purchase the whole album for less than the cost of all the tracks individually. It certainly won't cost $20 for an entire album. It's more likely to be around $12.

good luck on that
at least a label trying solve the mp3 problem issue, a very inteligent move indeed.
i believe in time prices will bounce to fit the public demandings in a way both parts can benefit from it.
